This work assessed the effectiveness of several methods on degradation of microcystin-LR (MC-LR) by different Advanced Oxidation Processes, like solar photo-Fenton, UV-A/photo-Fenton and UV-C/H2O2. UV-C/H2O2 and UV-A/photo-Fenton processes were carried out in a bench scale photochemical apparatus and the solar photo-Fenton treatment was performed in a CPC photoreactor. MC-LR degradation was monitored by LC-ESI-MS/MS and kinetic parameters were calculated for all systems evaluated.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA simple methodology for the determination of the fatty acid composition of edible oils through (1)H NMR is proposed. The method is based on the fact that all fatty acid chains are esterified to a common moiety, glycerol, and the quantification is done directly in the (1)H NMR spectra through the relationship between the areas of a characteristic signal of each fatty acid and a signal of the glycerol moiety, without the use of mathematical equations. The methodology was successfully applied to determine the fatty acid composition of several edible oils, with equivalent results to those given by the AOAC Official method by gas chromatography.

Incidentally, this sealing material was obtained from hives surrounding a large forestry site based on a single exotic flora, namely poplar (Populus sp.).
