Background: One in six Mexican adults' lives with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), which is the third leading cause of death in the country. Analyzing the geographic distribution of T2DM mortality helps identify regions with higher mortality rates. This study aimed to examine the spatial patterns of mortality from type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) across municipalities in Mexico and to analyze the main contextual factors linked to this cause of death in 2020.

This study compared analytic methods for estimating rate of forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV) change from EHR data.
Methods: We estimated rate of FEV change in patients with COPD from a single centre who had ≥3 outpatient tests spanning at least 1 year.
Background: Familial hypokalemic periodic paralysis (HypoPP) is an uncommon genetic disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of muscle weakness and hypokalemia, typically starting in early adulthood. The existence of hyperthyroidism in the presence of HypoPP is more strongly associated with a diagnosis of thyrotoxic periodic paralysis (TPP), with most cases occurring in Asian males with pathogenic KCNJ2 or KCNJ18 variants and without a family history of the condition. This case is novel due to the combination of familial HypoPP and hyperthyroidism induced by Graves' disease, a rare occurrence especially in non-Asian populations.

There are very few data reporting the outcomes of these treatments in real-world experience. The aim of this retrospective study is to report the effects of SGLT2 inhibitors, finerenone, and their combination in CKD patients in our community-based setting.

While 42 proteins have been identified to date, their distribution differs between systemic and localized forms.
Summary: Mass spectrometry analysis of tissue samples in the USA shows immunoglobulin light chain (AL) amyloidosis as the most prevalent systemic type, followed by transthyretin (ATTR).
Background: We assess trends in overdose mortality rates in Mexico from 1999 to 2019 and identify the states with the highest overdose mortality rates over time.
Methods: The analysis using mortality statistics examined deaths related to drug use. We estimated general overdose mortality rates at the national and state levels and calculated specific mortality rates associated with opioid and stimulant use using central rate estimation.

This study updates knowledge on historical geographic distribution of sand fly species through identifying altitudinal and bioclimatic patterns in leishmaniasis endemic areas in Mexico. We analyze and identify sand fly specimens obtained through national efforts by the Instituto de Diagnóstico y Referencia Epidemiológicos (InDRE, Mexico), collected between 1995 and 2001, 2008-2012, and 2017-2023, and add bibliographic information (427 additional records). After a principal components analysis of WorldClim variables and altitudinal ranges, variables that better explain the distribution of sand fly species were chosen (BIO6, BIO12, and BIO16, explaining 72 % of variation).

Management is founded on treating the underlying cause of AKI, but supportive care-via fluid management, vasopressor therapy, kidney replacement therapy (KRT), and more-is also crucial. Blood pressure targets are often higher in AKI, and these can be achieved with fluids and vasopressors, some of which may be more kidney-protective than others.

A heightened sense of cultural empathy may explain various telepathic or prophetic experiences that are very common to the point of being an ordinary experience. The spirits of folklore, which are said to have observable effects in the physical world, indicate a continuum from material to spiritual, and implies that the individual mind goes beyond the self and recognizes separate, sentient expressions of their own psyche in nature.

Unveiling the mechanism of these compounds may lead to useful tools for biological investigation and new therapeutic leads. In selected cases, the DNA mismatch repair-deficient colorectal cancer cell line, HCT116, has been used as a tool in forward genetic screens to identify compound-resistant mutations, which have ultimately led to target identification.

Here, we focused on the long-standing challenge of species delimitation in the Mammillaria haageana complex, a group that presents great morphological diversity that makes its taxonomy a puzzle. Our work integrates genomic, morphological, and ecological data to establish the taxonomic limits in the M.

The use of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), in which plasma and its soluble constituents are removed from the body in exchange for a replacement fluid, can be organ- and life-saving in many diseases. Given the notable similarities between TPE and hemodialysis, the nephrologist is often responsible for managing TPE.

Recent Findings: Non-HIV-driven risk factors for kidney disease, such as APOL1 risk variants and other genetic and environmental factors, have been discovered and are better described. Consequently, the field of HIV-associated kidney disease has evolved with greater attention given to traditional risk factors of CKD and antiretroviral treatment's nephrotoxicity.
Introduction: Embryo transfer(ET) is one of the main procedures to become pregnant by assisted reproductive technology(ART). Simulation training is a way to improve the skills of clinicians. The objective of this study was to evaluate the interest of trainees in learning embryo transfer using simulators.

The aim of this study was to investigate the cell-autonomous role of retinoic acid signaling in endothelial cells during retina vascular development. Using a temporal and cell-specific mouse model to disrupt retinoic acid signaling in endothelial cells in the postnatal retina (PdgfbdnRAR403 mutants), we discovered that angiogenesis in the retina is significantly decreased with a reduction in retina vascularization, endothelial tip cell number and filipodia, and endothelial 'crowding' of stalk cells.

Community health workers (promotoras de salud) reduce disparities by providing culturally appropriate education. While educational interventions have been studied in atopic dermatitis (AD), a chronic dermatologic condition affecting children, none have evaluated the use of promotoras in Spanish-speaking pediatric patients in the United States.
