Supported employment, by definition, assumes the need for ongoing support. Despite this, assumptions inherent within regulations and policies of federal and state rehabilitation systems appear to be at variance with this definition: Job placement is viewed as final and support is temporary. Consequently, retraining and replacement services following the termination of a job are an afterthought, job change is equated with failure, and retraining is a reaction to this failure.

[The procedures and results of a quality control program in mammography carried out on a regional basis].

In 1990 the region of Tuscany instituted a quality control program for mammography, in order to check the working conditions of mammography centers in the region, to investigate the feasibility of applying some working standards in line with European recommendations, and to promote the training of personnel. The program involves the following: a test of newly acquired mammographic equipment to establish that it meets the required standards; an annual test of generators, X-ray beams, grid, AEC, screen-film system, film processing, dose and image quality; daily test (phantom radiography and film sensitometry) performed by the personnel of each mammographic Unit; and a sustained advisory service for the technical problems occurring between checks. Thirty-nine of 57 centers participated on a voluntary basis, and 135 checks were performed annually.

The effectiveness of oral transmucosal fentanyl citrate (OTFC) as preanesthetic medication was compared with oral meperidine, diazepam, and atropine (MDA) in 40 pediatric patients scheduled to undergo repair of congenital heart defects. An ecological assessment inventory to facilitate community recreation participation by severely disabled individuals.

Severely disabled individuals have long been systematically excluded from actively participating in normalized recreation/leisure activities in integrated community settings. Severely disabled individuals should be taught functional and age appropriate skills, based upon the performance characteristics of nonhandicapped peers. In order to present this position, typical assumptions of leisure skill instruction for severely disabled individuals are discussed and opposing points of view are presented.

Stability of several brands of ampicillin and penicillin V potassium oral liquids following reconstitution.

The stability-time profiles of the active ingredient of five generically equivalent brands of penicillin V potassium for oral solution, and of five generically equivalent brands of ampicillin for oral suspension, were studied. Three controlled conditions were employed-refrigerated, room and elevated temperature-and all the samples were assayed chemically for drug remaining at specific time intervals after reconstitution. The results showed that considerable variations in the initial concentrations of active component existed among the various ampicillin and penicillin products.
