Intermittent fasting may be an effective tool for weight loss, but it is still unclear from previous studies to date whether it is as effective as a continuous energy restriction in terms of reducing adipose tissue and whether it leads to unwanted muscle loss. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of intermittent fasting (IF) with continuous energy restriction (CER) on the body weight and body composition and to assess the effect of intermittent fasting also in isolation from the energy restriction. Natural graphite sheet (NGS) is compressible, porous, electrically and thermally conductive material that shows a potential to be used in fuel cells, flow batteries, electronics cooling systems, supercapacitors, adsorption air conditioning, and heat exchangers. We report the results of an extensive material characterization study that focuses on thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, electrical conductivity, coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), compression strain, and emissivity. All the properties are density-dependent and highly anisotropic.

A common approach to non-uniformity is to assume that the local thicknesses inside the light spot are distributed according to a certain distribution, such as the uniform distribution or the Wigner semicircle distribution. A model considered in this work uses a different approach in which the local thicknesses are given by a polynomial in the coordinates x and y along the surface of the film. An approach using the Gaussian quadrature is very efficient for including the influence of the non-uniformity on the measured ellipsometric quantities.

In this paper the complete optical characterization of an inhomogeneous polymer-like thin film of SiOCH exhibiting a thickness non-uniformity and transition layer at the boundary between the silicon substrate and this film is performed using variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry. The Campi-Coriasso dispersion model was utilized for describing the spectral dependencies of the optical constants of the SiOCH thin film and transition layer. The multiple-beam interference model was used for expressing inhomogeneity of the SiOCH thin film.

Future optical clock networks will require free-space optical time-frequency transfer between flying clocks. However, simple one-way or standard two-way time transfer between flying clocks will completely break down because of the time-of-flight variations and Doppler shifts associated with the strongly time-varying link distances. Here, we demonstrate an advanced, frequency comb-based optical two-way time-frequency transfer (O-TWTFT) that can successfully synchronize the optical timescales at two sites connected via a time-varying turbulent air path.

We demonstrate real-time, femtosecond-level clock synchronization across a low-lying, strongly turbulent, 12-km horizontal air path by optical two-way time transfer. For this long horizontal free-space path, the integrated turbulence extends well into the strong turbulence regime corresponding to multiple scattering with a Rytov variance up to 7 and with the number of signal interruptions exceeding 100 per second. Nevertheless, optical two-way time transfer is used to synchronize a remote clock to a master clock with femtosecond-level agreement and with a relative time deviation dropping as low as a few hundred attoseconds.

During an outbreak of methanol poisonings in the Czech Republic in 2012, we were able to study methanol and formate elimination half-lives during intermittent hemodialysis (IHD) and continuous veno-venous hemodialysis/hemodiafiltration (CVVHD/HDF) and the relative impact of dialysate and blood flow rates on elimination. Data were obtained from 11 IHD and 13 CVVHD/HDF patients. Serum methanol and formate concentrations were measured by gas chromatography and an enzymatic method.

To investigate the accuracy of intra-articular injection of the basal joint and to determine the rate of soft-tissue extravasation of injected material in successful intra-articular injection, we injected the basal joint of 30 hands with radiopaque dye (with fluoroscopy guiding needle placement in 8 cases) and then used fluoroscopy to check injection accuracy.
