The first complete measurement of the β-decay strength distribution of _{17}^{45}Cl_{28} was performed at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) with the FRIB Decay Station Initiator during the second FRIB experiment. The measurement involved the detection of neutrons and γ rays in two focal planes of the FRIB Decay Station Initiator in a single experiment for the first time. This enabled an analytical consistency in extracting the β-decay strength distribution over the large range of excitation energies, including neutron unbound states.

The boundaries of the chart of nuclides contain exotic isotopes that possess extreme proton-to-neutron asymmetries. Here we report on strong evidence of ^{9}N, one of the most exotic proton-rich isotopes where more than one half of its constitute nucleons are unbound. With seven protons and two neutrons, this extremely proton-rich system would represent the first-known example of a ground-state five-proton emitter.

The Superconducting Analyzer for MUlti-particles from RAdioIsotope (SAMURAI) Pion-Reconstruction and Ion-Tracker Time Projection Chamber (SπRIT TPC) was designed to enable measurements of heavy ion collisions with the SAMURAI spectrometer at the RIKEN radioactive isotope beam factory and provides constraints on the equation of state of neutron-rich nuclear matter. The SπRIT TPC has a 50.5 cm drift length and an 86.

Many neutron star properties, such as the proton fraction, reflect the symmetry energy contributions to the equation of state that dominate when neutron and proton densities differ strongly. To constrain these contributions at suprasaturation densities, we measure the spectra of charged pions produced by colliding rare isotope tin (Sn) beams with isotopically enriched Sn targets. Using ratios of the charged pion spectra measured at high transverse momenta, we deduce the slope of the symmetry energy to be 42 View Article and Find Full Text PDF

A ^{13}F resonance was observed following a charge-exchange reaction between a fast ^{13}O beam and a ^{9}Be target. The resonance was found in the invariant-mass distribution of 3p+^{10}C events and probably corresponds to a 5/2^{+} excited state. The ground state was also expected to be populated, but was not resolved from the background.

The structure of the extremely proton-rich nucleus _{8}^{11}O_{3}, the mirror of the two-neutron halo nucleus _{3}^{11}Li_{8}, has been studied experimentally for the first time. Following two-neutron knockout reactions with a ^{13}O beam, the ^{11}O decay products were detected after two-proton emission and used to construct an invariant-mass spectrum. A broad peak of width ∼3.

Aims: Alcohol abuse has long been known as a disease with social and economic burden to society. Given the complex nature of alcohol treatment, it is worthwhile to examine the change over time of patients admitted to residential alcohol abuse rehabilitation units.

Methods: The data were collected from two Italian projects on alcoholics performed in the mid-1990s (ASSALT) and in 2009 (CORRAL), respectively.

The lifetimes of the first excited 2^{+} and 4^{+} states in ^{72}Ni were measured at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory with the recoil-distance Doppler-shift method, a model-independent probe to obtain the reduced transition probability. Excited states in ^{72}Ni were populated by the one-proton knockout reaction of an intermediate energy ^{73}Cu beam. γ-ray-recoil coincidences were detected with the γ-ray tracking array GRETINA and the S800 spectrograph.

Results are presented from a search for the rare decays Bs(0)→μ+ μ- and B(0)→μ+ μ- in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=7 and 8 TeV, with data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of 5 and 20  fb(-1), respectively, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. An unbinned maximum-likelihood fit to the dimuon invariant mass distribution gives a branching fraction B(Bs(0)→μ+ μ-)=(3.0(-0.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted measuring the production rates of W and Z bosons in proton-proton collisions at a collision energy of 8 TeV, using data from the CMS detector.
  • The results indicated a total inclusive cross-section for W bosons of 12.21 nb and for Z bosons of 1.15 nb, with small associated uncertainties.
  • These findings are consistent with advanced theoretical predictions and represent the first measurement of these bosons at this energy level in such collisions.

A study of color coherence effects in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7[Formula: see text] is presented. The data used in the analysis were collected in 2010 with the CMS detector at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb[Formula: see text]. Events are selected that contain at least three jets and where the two jets with the largest transverse momentum exhibit a back-to-back topology.

Spectra of identified charged hadrons are measured in pPb collisions with the CMS detector at the LHC at [Formula: see text]. Charged pions, kaons, and protons in the transverse-momentum range [Formula: see text]-1.7[Formula: see text] and laboratory rapidity [Formula: see text] are identified via their energy loss in the silicon tracker.

  • - The mass of the top quark is determined using data from candidate events featuring at least six jets, collected by the CMS detector during proton-proton collisions at [Formula: see text] TeV in 2011, totaling an integrated luminosity of 3.54 [Formula: see text].
  • - Each event undergoes a kinematic fit of the jets to a [Formula: see text] hypothesis to accurately reconstruct the mass.
  • - The final measurement for the top-quark mass is reported as [Formula: see text] GeV, which is further refined by combining it with earlier measurements from different decay modes by CMS, resulting in a combined mass of [Formula: see text] GeV.

A search for anomalous production of events with three or more isolated leptons and bottom-quark jets produced in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV is presented. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb(-1) collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2012.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines unusual production of top quark-antiquark pairs from proton-proton collisions at a high energy level (√s=8 TeV), utilizing data from the CMS detector at the LHC.
  • - A total of 19.7 fb(-1) of data was analyzed, and the results show that the observed mass spectrum aligns with predictions made by the standard model of particle physics.
  • - For the first time, limitations on production cross sections and branching fractions are set, exploring specific new physics models that have not been addressed by previous precise measurements.

Article Synopsis
  • The study reports the first measurements of vector-boson production associated with a top quark-antiquark pair during proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, using data from the CMS detector at the LHC from 2011.
  • Two analysis channels were employed: a trilepton analysis for ttZ events and a same-sign dilepton analysis for ttV events (where V can be W or Z).
  • The measured cross sections are σ(ttZ) = 0.28 pb and σ(ttV) = 0.43 pb, both significant at over 3 standard deviations, and they align with theoretical predictions within the stated uncertainties.

Aim: The treatment of alcohol addiction in Italy has had a progressive evolution of therapeutic structures for in-and outpatients. During the last 20 years there had been a crescent presence of short residential treatment facilities (1-6 months) characterized by a high level of medical and psychotherapeutic intervention. About two years ago 12 of them jointed together in an association called CORRAL (COordinamento of Residenzialità Riabilitive Alcologiche).
