[Surgery approach of mediastinal benign teratomas in childhood].

Benign teratomas are benign tumors of germinative cells which originate from gonad tissue, and are primarily located in the gonads (ovary and testes). Less frequently they may appear extragonadally, mostly in mediastinum region, where they constitute 10% of all tumors in that area. Surgical aproach to treating these teratomas is completely removing mediastinal benign teratomas by anterolateral thoracotomy or transversal sternotomy.

[Staphylococcus pneumonia--complications].

The paper presents the case of a 4-year-old child who was admitted with the diagnosis Dg: Pleuropneumonia lat. sin, while in the further course as a suspicion due to progressive flow as staphylococcus pneumonia. The illness is complex in terms of treatment.

[Conservative surgical treatment of pulmonary hydatid disease in children].

Background: Hydatide disease is endemic in sheep and cattle-raising areas world wide. Its prevalence is also high in the Mediterranean region including Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Objective: Retrospective appraisal of the presentation, approach to surgical treatment and outcome of hydatid disease in children at the Clinic for Thoracic Surgery UCC Sarajevo between January 2000 and January 2007.

[Foreign bodies in the thorax].

Background: Metallic foreign bodies in the lung could be recognized using radiography. Non-metallic foreign bodies make difficultes because they are not as dense as metals. The aim of this report was to present the case of non-metallic foreign bodies in the lung.

[The using doxycycline in procedure chemical pleurodesis of malignancy pleural effusion].

Unlabelled: Pleural effusion is acumulation of liquid in pleural space, wich caused primary of pleural diseases or secundary of systemic diseases.

Problem: Pleural effusion are the most frequently caused by malignancy and make worse poor condition of patients with malignancy. Pleural punction is insufficient metod for treatmen of malignancy pleural effusion.

A case of T/null anaplastic large cell lymphoma arising in lung.

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a rare non-Hodgkin, T-cell lymphoma, representing only 2-3% of all lymphoid neoplasm's in adults according to World Health Organization (WHO). CD30 antigen-positive, large neoplastic cells characterize ALCL. We present here a 46-year-old male with pulmonary ALCL previously diagnosed with Hodgkin disease.

[Isolated war injuries of the thorax].

From own clinical material the authors examined and analysed isolated injuries of thorax made by war injuries. The results are compared with the same from other authors in same conditions. Conclusion is that the fast evacuation to the first hospital urgent and if it is possible compensate the volume of blood, reanimation and drainage of pleural cavum.

[Importance of exploratory thoracotomy in the diagnosis of malignant neoplasms of the lung].

Role and importance of the explorative thoracotomy in diagnostics of malignant neoplasmas of the lung have great value. Among other diagnostic procedures explorative thoracotomy has an advantage because of visualization of process and possibility of the biopsy "extempore". As each diagnostic procedure, explorative thoracotomy has its own deficiencies because the procedure is aggressive, related to possibility of the postoperative complications, and because of these problems explorative thoracotomy is ultimative method in diagnosis of malignant neoplasmas of the lungs.
