Enhancing active aging through IRAGE: Mitigating social isolation with intergenerational gaming.

This paper presents the outcomes of a pioneering study that explores the potential of remote intergenerational communication to combat social isolation among children and older adults, especially under constraints posed by pandemics such as COVID-19. Acknowledging the limited mobility of many older adults, this research aims to provide insights into how digital platforms can facilitate meaningful exchanges between generations. Utilizing a mixed methodology approach, the study first conducted a user interaction analysis to outline guidelines for participant engagement with the Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-based tool called IRAGE (Intergenerational Remote Access to Gaming Experiences) designed specifically for this purpose.

Shared structural features of Miro binding control mitochondrial homeostasis.

Miro proteins are universally conserved mitochondrial calcium-binding GTPases that regulate a multitude of mitochondrial processes, including transport, clearance, and lipid trafficking. The exact role of Miro in these functions is unclear but involves binding to a variety of client proteins. How this binding is operated at the molecular level and whether and how it is important for mitochondrial health, however, remains unknown.

Low-dose Radiation Therapy in the Management of COVID-19 Pneumonia (LOWRAD-Cov19). Final results of a prospective phase I-II trial.

Background And Purpose: To evaluate the results of low-dose radiation therapy (LD-RT) to lungs in the management of patients with COVID-19 pneumonia.

Material And Methods: We conducted a prospective phase I-II trial enrolling COVID-19 patients ≥50 years-old, with bilateral lung involvement at imaging study and oxygen requirement (oxygen saturation ≤93% on room air). Patients received 1 Gy to whole lungs in a single fraction.

Here we show that the Ras/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway stimulates post-transcriptional stages of human ribosome synthesis.

European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB) Position Statement on Dermatologic Ultrasound.

Dermatologic ultrasound is a recent application of ultrasound for the evaluation of healthy skin and appendages and their diseases. Although the scientific literature regarding this application is still not sufficient for evidence-based guidelines, general recommendations issued by scientific societies are necessary. The EFSUMB (European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology) steering committee for dermatologic ultrasound has developed a series of consensus position statements regarding the main fields of dermatologic ultrasound (technical requirement, normal skin and appendages, inflammatory skin diseases, tumoral skin diseases, aesthetic dermatology and practice-training requirements).

Optimizing collagenase Clostridium histolyticum therapy for Peyronie's disease using a novel approach with percutaneous needle tunnelling.

Objectives: To compare the efficacy and safety of a combined treatment of percutaneous needle tunnelling (PNT) and a modified collagenase Clostridium histolyticum (CCH) protocol (PNT/CCH) vs the modified protocol alone (CCH) in the treatment of Peyronie's disease (PD).

Patients And Methods: A prospective registry of patients treated with a modified CCH protocol was maintained between June 2014 and February 2018. The last 50 patients received PNT as an adjuvant therapy (PNT/CCH), and their data were compared with those of the other 94 patients treated previously (CCH).

The eleventh international conference on transcription by RNA polymerases I, III, IV and V (the OddPols) was held from June 26th to June 29th 2018 at the Museum of Natural History of Toulouse, France and organized by Anthony Henras and Olivier Gadal. Maturation of pre-40S particles in yeast and humans.

The synthesis of ribosomal subunits in eukaryotes requires the interplay of numerous maturation and assembly factors (AFs) that intervene in the insertion of ribosomal proteins within pre-ribosomal particles, the ribosomal subunit precursors, as well as in pre-ribosomal RNA (rRNA) processing and folding. Here, we review the intricate nuclear and cytoplasmic maturation steps of pre-40S particles, the precursors to the small ribosomal subunits, in both yeast and human cells, with particular emphasis on the timing and mechanisms of AF association with and dissociation from pre-40S particles and the roles of these AFs in the maturation process. We highlight the particularly complex pre-rRNA processing pathway in human cells, compared to yeast, to generate the mature 18S rRNA.

Introduction of Basic Dermatologic Ultrasound in Undergraduate Medical Education.

Teaching ultrasound procedures to undergraduates has recently been proposed to improve the quality of medical education. We address the impact of applying standardized dermatologic ultrasound teaching to our undergraduates. Medical students were offered an additional theoretical and practical seminar involving hands-on ultrasound dermatologic ultrasound during their mandatory dermatology practical training.

Biliary sphincterotomy dilation for the extraction of difficult common bile duct stones.

Background And Aim: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with biliary sphincterotomy (BS) is the usual method for extracting common bile duct stones. However, following BS and by means of extraction balloons and Dormia baskets a complete bile duct clearance cannot be achieved in all cases. We present a study on the impact that hydrostatic balloon dilation of a previous BS (BSD) may have in the extraction rate of choledocholithiasis.

Value of testicular ultrasound in the evaluation of blunt scrotal trauma without haematocele.

The value of ultrasound in testicular trauma with haematocele has been questioned inasmuch as the injured testis should always be explored surgically. Ultrasonography, however, plays an important role in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with blunt scrotal trauma without haematocele. We have evaluated 17 such patients with real-time ultrasound.

Hepatic fibrin-ring granulomas: a clinicopathologic study of 23 patients.

Twenty-three patients with characteristic hepatic fibrin-ring granulomas were studied. Q fever accounted for 10 cases (43%), visceral leishmaniasis for five cases (22%), boutonneuse fever for two cases (9%), and toxoplasmosis, Hodgkin's disease, and allopurinol hypersensitivity for one case each (4%). The etiology remained undetermined in three cases (13%).

Sanded nuclei in delta patients.

Sanded nuclei are nuclei with eosinophilic inclusions identified by light microscopy in cases of chronic hepatitis B virus infection. In hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections, these inclusions have an almost homogeneous, finely granular texture giving a sandy appearance. They have been related to excess hepatitis B core antigen formation.
