Different conditions, such as basal cell transplantation, luminal cell ablation, and oncogene expression can reinduce adult basal SC (BaSCs) multipotency in different glandular epithelia.

Experiential techniques can be used to address maladaptive interpersonal patterns in patients with personality disorders (PDs) as long as they are delivered minding about the therapeutic relationship. We present the case study of Laura, a 38-year-old woman presenting with covert narcissism, generalized anxiety disorder, depression, and complicated grief treated with metacognitive interpersonal therapy. Laura initially refused to engage in any experiential work out of fear of being judged and abandoned by her therapist.

Herein, we describe the synthesis and the "in vitro" evaluation of compounds as cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 inhibitors, the COX-1 isoform being an ovarian cancer biomarker, each bearing fluorochromes with different fluorescence features.

Face-to-face versus distance learning in a seaside area: the teacher's point of view.

The total or partial replacement of face-to-face teaching with distance teaching brings a number of problems for teachers, children and families. Recently, in our province in Southern Italy, in a seaside area, we conducted a survey to assess the experiences of high school teachers faced with distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the purpose of examining the real impact of these dramatic changes, both from social and health perspectives. From the preliminary aspects of this survey it emerges that it is difficult to univocally consider the effectiveness of distance learning in such a complex territory, especially in a seaside area.

According to the World Health Organization, the major psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders include major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and autism spectrum disorder. The potential role of inflammation in the onset and progression of these disorders is increasingly being studied. The use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), well-known cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitors, combined with first-choice specific drugs have been long investigated.

This study aimed to review our 25-year experience with pediatric laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) to assess its long-term outcome. The records of 215 children (127 girls and 88 boys) who underwent LC for the past 25 years (1993-2018) were retrospectively reviewed. All patients had a symptomatic cholelithiasis.

Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization-Time of Flight (MALDI-TOF) Vitek MS system is a useful technique to identify bacteria strains isolated in clinical samples. In this paper, we applied this method to KPC-producing Enterobacteriaceae detection through the determination of a specific 11,109 (±8) Da peak. We assayed the presence, specificity and reliability of this peak on routine workflow through the analysis of 183 Enterobacteriaceae strains isolated from clinical samples and characterized by classical approaches.

Evaluation of rapid KPC carbapenemase detection method based on MALDI-TOF VITEK MS spectra analysis.

Clinical microbiology laboratories in hospital settings need to be able to identify patients who carry carbapenemase-producing bacterial strains quickly in order to contain their spread and initiate proper pharmacological therapy. The aim of this study was to confirm the correlation between KPC production and a characteristic mass spectrometry (MS) peak (11 109 Da±8) to validate the use of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) MS as a rapid screening tool. With this aim, 176 selected clinical samples that were KPC-producing and 260 control samples that were carbapenem-susceptible or carbapenem-resistant through other resistance mechanisms, or were producing hydrolytic enzymes other than KPC, were analysed.

Early lineage segregation of multipotent embryonic mammary gland progenitors.

The mammary gland is composed of basal cells and luminal cells. It is generally believed that the mammary gland arises from embryonic multipotent progenitors, but it remains unclear when lineage restriction occurs and what mechanisms are responsible for the switch from multipotency to unipotency during its morphogenesis. Here, we perform multicolour lineage tracing and assess the fate of single progenitors, and demonstrate the existence of a developmental switch from multipotency to unipotency during embryonic mammary gland development.
