A Comprehensive Analysis of Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy in Breast Cancer: Adverse Events, Clinical Response Rates, and Surgical and Pathological Outcomes-Bozyaka Experience.

To evaluate the neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACTx) process in breast cancer (BC), its significant treatment-related adverse events (trAEs), tumor clinical response rates, and surgical and pathological outcomes, and to analyze factors influencing cavity shaving and axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) following sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB). A comprehensive retrospective study was conducted at a single center on patients who received NACTx for BC between 2015 and 2021. Medical records of 242 patients were reviewed.

Correlation of Histopathological and Radiological Response Patterns and Their Prognostic Implications in Breast Cancer After Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy.

Purpose: In breast cancer (BC), neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) responses can be categorized as concentric shrinkage (CS), non-concentric shrinkage (non-CS), and complete response, influencing surgical planning and survival. This study evaluates the correlation between histopathological and radiological response patterns in BC patients after NAC and their impact on overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS).

Patients And Methods: This retrospective study analyzed 168 BC patients who received NAC between 2018 and 2022.

The differences between pure and mixed invasive micropapillary breast cancer: the epithelial-mesenchymal transition molecules and prognosis.

Purpose: Invasive micropapillary carcinoma (IMPC) of the breast is known for its high metastatic potential, but the definition of pure and mixed IMPC remains unclear. This retrospective cohort study aims to investigate the prognostic significance of the micropapillary component ratio and the expression of critical molecules of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), including E-cadherin (E-cad), N-cadherin (N-cad), CD44s, and β-catenin (β-cat), in distinguishing between pure and mixed IMPCs.

Methods: We analyzed 100 cases of locally advanced IMPC between 2000 and 2018 and excluded patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Effect of Upfront Docetaxel in De Novo Metastatic Castration-Sensitive Prostate Cancer Patients with Gleason Grade Group 5.

Objective: To investigate whether adding docetaxel chemotherapy to androgen deprivation therapy is effective regarding progression-free and overall survival in patients with de novo metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer patients with Gleason Grade Group 5 (Gleason scores 9 and 10).

First 10 days after the 6th of February 2023 earthquake disaster: experience of an orthopedic clinic on the border of the disaster zone.

Background: The earthquake disaster that occurred on February 06, 2023, caused serious destruction and loss of life in the south of Türkiye. The purpose of this article consisting of two interconnected parts is to report the experience of our orthopedics clinic, which is located just on the border of the disaster area. The subject of the first part of the study is the characteristics of ortho-pedic traumas in earthquake victims and the treatment methods applied.

Biomarker Discordances and Alterations Observed in Breast Cancer Treated with Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy: Causes, Frequencies, and Clinical Significances.

Purpose: Biomarker discordances and alterations can be encountered between tru-cut biopsy and residual tumor in breast cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACTx). We aimed to investigate the effect of NACTx on major biomarker expression (ER, PR, HER2, Ki-67) and tumor grade, the frequency and causes of receptor discordances, and the clinical significance of changes in terms of adjuvant therapy need and chemosensitivity.

Methods: In this retrospective study, ER, PR, HER2, and Ki-67 expression and tumor grades were compared between pre- and post-NACTx tumor samples using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test.

The Importance of the Pathological Perspective in the Management of the Invasive Lobular Carcinoma.

Background: Invasive lobular carcinomas (ILC) account for 10-15% of all breast cancers and are the second most common histological form of breast cancer. They usually show a discohesive pattern of single cell infiltration, tend to be multifocal, and the tumor may not be accompanied by a stromal reaction. Because of these histological features, which are not common in other breast tumors, radiological detection of the tumor may be difficult, and its pathological evaluation in terms of size and spread is often problematic.

The effectiveness and safety of neoadjuvant pertuzumab and trastuzumab in women with locally advanced, inflammatory, or early-stage human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive breast cancer: Turkish Oncology Group study.

In our study, we aimed to evaluate the pathological response rates and side effect profile of adding pertuzumab to the treatment of HER2+ locally advanced, inflammatory, or early-stage breast cancer. This study was conducted by the Turkish Oncology Group (TOG) with data collected from 32 centers. Our study was multicentric, and a total of 364 patients were included.

Prognostic Value of Receptor Change After Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy in Breast Cancer Patients.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between hormone receptors (HR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) discordance with prognosis, before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in breast cancer patients.

Materials And Methods: Histopathological data of 142 breast cancer patients attending a single center between 2001 and 2018 and were operated after NAC were evaluated retrospectively.

Results: The median (range) age of patients was 58 (32-69) years.

Evaluation of the olfactory bulb volume and morphology in patients with coronavirus disease 2019: can differences create predisposition to anosmia?

Objective: This study aimed to investigate whether the volume and morphology of the olfactory bulb are effective in the occurrence of anosmia in patients after COVID-19 infection.

Methods: The olfactory bulbus volume was calculated by examining the brain magnetic resonance imaging of cases with positive (+) COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction test with and without anosmia. Evaluated magnetic resonance imaging images were the scans of patients before they were infected with COVID-19.

Magnetic resonance imaging evaluation of incidentally detected hyperechoic liver lesions: comparison of two modalities in terms of detection, diagnosis, and morphological features.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate and compare the ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging characteristics of incidentally detected hyperechoic focal liver lesions.

Methods: Seventy-four patients (29 males and 45 females) who had undergone a B-mode ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging examination were included in this study. A total of 91 hyperechoic lesions detected on ultrasonography were evaluated.

Purpose: Patients over the age of 65 constitute approximately 54% of newly diagnosed cancers and approximately 70% of cancer-related deaths. These patients aged ≥65 years, who form the majority of clinical practice, are represented less in clinical studies than in real life. We designed this retrospective study to examine the treatment and response of patients to pancreatic cancer in patients over 70 years of age.

Comparison of the Effects of Pulsed Electromagnetic Field and Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy in a Rabbit Model of Experimentally Induced Achilles Tendon Injury.

Achilles tendon injuries are a common cause of complications including adhesions and tendon degeneration. As a result of these complications, the biomechanical properties are lost. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) and pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) recover the injured tendon structure; however, detailed studies of changes in tendon biomechanical properties are limited.

Evaluation of radiologic diagnostic criteria and treatment options in skeletal muscle hydatid cysts.

Aim: To investigate the diagnosis and treatment methods of soft tissue involvement of hydatid cysts (HCs).

Materials And Methods: Eleven patients who were diagnosed as having HC with muscular tissue (soft tissue) involvement between 2010 and 2016 were evaluated retrospectively. Seven patients had typical HC magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and four patients had cysts with an unusual appearance.

Renal resistive index in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome.

Objective: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age. The renal resistive index (RRI) is a measure of renal arterial resistance to blood flow. The aim of this study was to investigate the renal resistive index levels of patients with PCOS.

Color Doppler ultrasonography is a reliable diagnostic tool in the diagnosis of extracranial vertebral artery dissections.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of color Doppler sonography (CDS) in the diagnosis of extracranial vertebral artery dissections (EVADs). One hundred and fifty consecutive patients (age range 21-51 years, mean 44 years) with a clinical suspicion of vertebral artery dissection (VAD) were included in this study. All patients underwent CDS of vertebral arteries as the first-line imaging modality.

Albendazole Induced Recurrent Acute Toxic Hepatitis: A Case Report.

Introduction: Drug induced acute toxic hepatitis can be idiosyncratic. Albendazole, a widely used broad spectrum antiparasitic drug is generally accepted as a safe drug. It may cause asymptomatic transient liver enzyme abnormalities but acute toxic hepatitis is very rare.

Sonographic assessment of subacromial bursa distension during arm abduction: establishing a threshold value in the diagnosis of subacromial impingement syndrome.

Purpose: In this study, we aimed to establish a quantitative threshold value in the diagnosis of subacromial impingement syndrome by measuring the thickness of the subacromial bursa during abduction and adduction.

Materials And Methods: Forty-five patients with subacromial impingement syndrome and 54 healthy individuals underwent dynamic shoulder ultrasonography. The subacromial bursa, between the supraspinatus tendon margin and peribursal adipose tissue, was measured between the acromion and humeral head at its widest part.

A Rare Cause of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome: Retropharyngeal Lipoma.

Lipoma is the most common benign mesenchymal neoplasm. About 16% of lipomas arise in the head and neck region, especially in the posterior neck. Large lipomas that originate from the retropharyngeal space may cause dyspnea, dysphagia, and snoring and occasionally may lead to obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS).

Pulmonary agenesis is a rarely encountered congenital anomaly, and its average prevalence is about 1 in 100,000 births. Anomalies of the cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, or genitourinary systems may accompany in nearly half of the cases. The diagnosis of pulmonary agenesis is usually made during childhood, but the diagnosis may be delayed until adulthood in case of an absence of comorbid anomalies .

Double steal phenomenon secondary to innominate artery occlusion.

Innominate artery steno-occlusive disease is a relatively rare clinical entity and may cause cerebrovascular symptoms. Herein, we report a 50-year-old male patient who presented with recurrent syncopal episodes and cerebrovascular ischemia. Color Doppler sonography revealed a distinctive flow pattern with partial and total flow reversal in the right internal carotid artery and vertebral artery, respectively.
