The prevalence of bacterial vaginosis (BV) among women of reproductive age is 29%. BV arises from a vaginal imbalance marked by reduced levels of lactic acid-producing lactobacilli and an overgrowth of pathogenic anaerobes. The multifactorial nature of BV's pathogenesis complicates its treatment.

Study Design: Retrospective cohort study of surgical tubal sterilizations performed on 966 patients for contraception between 2002 and 2011, and of 19 patients who underwent refertilization between 2002 and 2012. The main outcome measures were complications and failure rates of sterilization, motives for refertilization and pregnancy rates after refertilization.
A 39-year-old woman in the 39th week of her fifth pregnancy presented with severe itching. In recent weeks she had developed an increasingly itchy rash on her trunk and arms. Upon examination we observed multiple erythematous plaques and vesicles.
