The Golden Horn (GH) sediments, which consist mainly of clay, organic substances and heavy metals, are formed with the contribution of industrial and domestic wastes released in the Golden Horn Estuary. On account of their mineralogical and chemical composition, these sediments may be regarded as a suitable raw material for briquette production. In this study, the utilization of GH dredged bottom sediments was investigated for preparation of briquettes.

The aim of this study was to examine the relationships of the surgical landmarks on the lateral surface of the mastoid bone with the landmarks in a deeper location. Simple mastoidectomy was carried out without drilling over the linea temporalis inferior (LTI) on 20 adult temporal bones. The suprameatal spine, i.

Objectives: The pain assocaited with ureteral obstruction is caused by a rise in intraluminal pressure above the obstruction which produces an increase in tension of the ureteral smooth muscle. A reduction in pressure will result in decreased tension and relief of pain. In this study we used papaverine and a prostaglandin synthesis inhibitor, diclofenac sodium to decrease ureteral tension and compaired their effects on isolated human ureteric smooth muscle.

Background: To determine whether cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and circulating levels of leptin differ between women with preeclampsia and women who had an uncomplicated pregnancy.

Methods: Maternal serum and CSF leptin concentrations obtained in the third trimester of the gestation were compared in 16 women with mild preeclampsia and 23 normotensive pregnant women who underwent cesarean section. Before administering local anesthetic for spinal anesthesia, 2 mL CSF and 4 mL venous blood sample were taken and were stored at -30 degrees C until serum and CSF leptin levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of resveratrol on histopathological changes, antioxidant status and lipid peroxidation, in torsion-detorsion injury in rat ovaries.

Method: To determine whether ischemia followed by reperfusion can induce ovarian oxidative damage, we created a model of adnexal ischemia-reperfusion by using rats. Ischemia was induced by unilateral occlusion of the tubo-ovarian vessels for 3 h.

The study was planned to determine the effects of electromagnetic fields produced by cellular phones on baseline fetal heart rate, acceleration and deceleration. Forty pregnant women undergoing non-stress test were admitted to the study. Non-stress test was obtained while the subjects were holding the CP on stand by mode and on dialing mode, each for 5 min.

Although pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign neoplasm of the salivary glands, it has also been reported to be present in the neck, ear, mediastinum, external nose and nasal cavity. Intranasal localization of this lesion is very rare and mainly originates from the nasal septum. From wherever the lesion originates, the main treatment modality should be surgical.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of total middle turbinate resection on midfacial growth through a morphometric analysis on an animal model.

Methods: Twenty-eight male New Zealand white rabbits were used. The animals were divided into three groups: group 1, elevation and relocation of the nasal bone was performed; group 2, concha resection was performed; group 3, control group with no surgical procedure.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the level of nitric oxide (NO) metabolites, nitrite and nitrate in human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum and to assess whether there is any relationship among CSF, serum nitrate-nitrite levels and preeclampsia.

Study Design: Twenty-one preeclamptic and 27 healthy pregnant women as control group who underwent cesarean section (C/S) were included in the study. Before administering local anesthetic for spinal anesthesia, 2 ml CSF and 4 ml venous blood sample were taken.

Purpose: To determine the prognostic factors related to local control and survival in 257 patients with uterine cervical cancer treated with definitive radiotherapy (RT).

Materials And Methods: The medical records of 257 patients treated with definitive RT from January 1987 to December 1998 were reviewed retrospectively. Pretreatment and treatment parameters were analyzed to determine their prognostic value onlocal control and survival.

Purpose: The aim of the present study was to evaluate early and late radiation morbidity and to assess the factors influencing morbidity in patients with cervical or endometrial cancer treated by a combination of external radiotherapy (ERT) and intracavitary brachytherapy (IBRT).

Materials And Methods: Early and late radiation morbidity were evaluated retrospectively using RTOG/EORTC criteria and Franco-Italian glossary in 771 patients treated between November 1992 and December 1999.

Results: Four hundred and seven patients (52.

Coordinated water molecules induce the aggregation and self-assembly of the lyotropic liquid crystalline phase formed from non-ionic surfactants C H (CH CH O) OH and transition metal aqua complexes ([Ni(H O) ](NO ) , [Co(H O) ](NO ) , [Zn(H O) ](NO ) , [Cd(H O) ](NO ) , and [Co(H O) ]Cl ) into hexagonal and/or cubic structures. While the Ni and Co complexes undergo recrystallization and phase separation at high complex concentrations, the Zn and Cd complexes form cubic phases above metal/surfactant molar ratios of 3.2/1 at room temperature.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the prognostic factors influencing overall, disease-free and local recurrence-free survival in patients treated postoperatively with adjuvant radiotherapy for endometrial carcinoma.

Methods: The records of 440 patients with endometrial carcinoma treated by postoperative radiotherapy between January 1985 and June 1997 were reviewed retrospectively. All patients received postoperative external radiotherapy with 1.

Nineteen, randomly selected male patients with lepromatous leprosy were evaluated electrophysiologically. All of these patients had long-standing disease and were treated with dapsone alone. There were statistically significant differences between the values obtained in this group of leprosy patients compared to 20 age-matched controls in auditory brain stem evoked potentials (ABEP).

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between diabetes mellitus and hearing loss which is still controversial. Pure tone audiometry was performed in 75 patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, aged between 14 and 60 years (45 males and 30 females; average age 45.3 years), and in 40 randomly selected sex- and age-matched non-diabetic control subjects, using an Interacoustics Clinical Computer Audiometer Model AC5.

Thirty-six patients with leprosy and 12 sex- and age-matched controls were investigated for disorders of the audiovestibular system, and vertebral artery measurements were calculated using a color Doppler ultrasound technique. Sensorineural hearing loss found to be of cochlear origin was detected in 8 of the leprosy patients. Maximal flow velocity and mean flow velocity were measured, and the total vertebral artery flow was calculated by adding flows from the right and left sides.

The accuracy and the reliability of extracranial vertebral artery Doppler flow for the detection of the possible cause of the tinnitus was studied prospectively and Doppler findings were compared with controls. Vertebral artery measurements have been made in 28 patients (56 vertebral arteries) with tinnitus and 12 sex- and age-matched controls. Maximal flow velocity and mean flow velocity were measured and total vertebral artery flow was calculated by adding flows from the right and left sides.
