Leptospirosis, an infection caused by the spirochete Leptospira and commonly attributed to the underdeveloped world, is frequently under-diagnosed in the United States. This report discusses the case of a 79-year-old male with no significant medical history who presented to the ED with recurrent falls. Initial laboratory results demonstrated severe acute kidney injury, hyperbilirubinemia, and thrombocytopenia.

Minimal disease activity and associated factors in patients with psoriatic arthritis: cross-sectional study from a single center.

Introduction: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a heterogeneous disease with various manifestations such as dactylitis, enthesitis, spondylitis, and skin involvement. Minimal disease activity (MDA) has been successfully used in daily clinical practice and is considered a reasonable treatment target in patients with PsA. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the MDA status and associated factors in patients with PsA in our tertiary referral clinic.

Breast Cancer Recurrence in Initially Clinically Node-Positive Patients Undergoing Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy After Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy in the NEOSENTITURK-Trials MF18-02/18-03.

Background: This study aims to identify factors predicting recurrence and unfavorable prognosis in cN+ patients who have undergone sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) following neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC).

Methods: The retrospective multi-centre "MF18-02" and the prospective multi-centre cohort registry trial "MF18-03" (NCT04250129) included patients with cT1-4N1-3M0 with SLNB+/- axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) post-NAC.

Results: A total of 2407 cN+ patients, who later achieved cN0 status after NAC and subsequently underwent SLNB, were studied.

Mucopolysaccharidosis IVA (MPS IVA) is an autosomal recessive disease caused by a mutation in the N-acetylgalactosamine-6-sulfate-sulfatase (GALNS) gene resulting in progressive systemic skeletal dysplasia. There is currently no effective treatment available for this skeletal condition. Thus, the development of a new therapy stands as an unmet challenge in reversing or alleviating the progression of the disease.

Introduction: The Paris System for Reporting Urinary Cytology (TPS) was designed to provide precise diagnostic criteria when evaluating urine cytology and standardize the terminology used in reporting. In our study, we have aimed to determine the effect of TPS on the diagnostic performance of urine cytology, its impact on establishing appropriate risk stratification, and its effectiveness in the diagnosis and follow-up of the patients.

Methods: We reevaluated 200 liquid-based urine cytologies with available histological diagnoses reported between 2015 and 2021 according to TPS criteria and compared them with the original cytological diagnoses.

Tetanus Cases in Mogadishu-Somalia: A Tragic Disease Despite the Existence of a Century-Old Safe and Efficient Tetanus Vaccine.

Introduction: Despite the efforts and support of the World Health Organization and other international organizations to reduce the incidence of the disease, tetanus is still an acute condition with serious consequences, including death. The purpose of this study was to assess the tetanus patients we have been monitoring over the past two years in Somalia, a country with a protracted civil conflict, extreme poverty, and restricted access to hospital, social security, and public health facilities.

Methods: This study includes tetanus patients who were admitted to the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Training and Research Hospital in Mogadishu, Somalia, Turkey between January 1, 2022, and November 1, 2023.

Thirdhand Smoke Exposure Ignored by Pediatricians: A Cross-sectional Study.

Thirdhand smoke (THS) is defined as the harmful substances in cigarette smoke that are absorbed into objects, people, and surfaces after smoking. This study aimed to determine the level of awareness of pediatricians working in a tertiary healthcare institution about THS exposure. In this cross-sectional study, participants were asked to fill out an information form in which we questioned the participant's age, sex, occupation in the institution, the exposure of pediatric patients to cigarette smoke during daily healthcare, tobacco product use status, smoking status in their home and car, behavior in case of smoking in closed areas where smoking is prohibited, and whether they knew the term of THS.

Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are sulfated polysaccharides comprising repeating disaccharides, uronic acid (or galactose) and hexosamines, including chondroitin sulfate, dermatan sulfate, heparan sulfate, and keratan sulfate. BACs, often used for surface and hand disinfection in high concentrations or as preservatives in health products such as nasal sprays and eye drops, may present environmental risks if they seep into irrigation water through prolonged exposure or improper application.

Reproducibility of the Paris System in Urine Cytology by Third-Year Pathology Residents.

Comparison of university students who experienced the death of a parent and those who did not in terms of self-compassion and difficulty in emotion regulation.

Against a background of scarce research into the relationship between difficulty in emotion regulation and self-compassion among bereaved populations, the aim of this study was to examine self-compassion and difficulty in emotion regulation among university students who had experienced the death of a parent (n = 150) and those who had not (n = 474). It was found that the self-compassion scores of the university students with a deceased parent were significantly lower than the scores of those with living parents. Similarly, university students whose parent had passed away had higher scores for difficulty in emotion regulation than students who had not lived through that trauma.
