Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is a genetic disease characterized by poor formation of tooth enamel. AI occurs due to mutations, especially in AMEL, ENAM, KLK4, MMP20, and FAM83H, associated with changes in matrix proteins, matrix proteases, cell-matrix adhesion proteins, and transport proteins of enamel. Due to the wide variety of phenotypes, the diagnosis of AI is complex, requiring a genetic test to characterize it better.

Orofacial Manifestations of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome: Two Case Reports and a Scoping Review.

Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) results from the teratogenic effects of alcohol on the fetus. Oral manifestations are commonly found in FAS and contribute to the diagnosis. The purpose of this study was to provide a review of the literature and describe two cases of FAS.

Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are examples of these conditions, which are characterized by skin and mucous lesions. Here, we report a case of a 9-year-old girl who presented with blisters associated with an extensive vesicular rash and multiple ulcerations on the lips and oral cavity.

Fabrication of a custom pediatric nasal mask for noninvasive ventilation using a maxillofacial elastomer: A straightforward technique.

The facial masks commercially available for noninvasive positive pressure ventilation therapy for children with clinical conditions of hypoventilation are limited by size and hardness. The present report describes a straightforward method of developing a nasal mask from a room-temperature vulcanizing silicone elastomer for daily contact with the nasal mucosa of babies during noninvasive positive pressure ventilation. The fabrication of the silicone mask with nasal tubes is based on maxillofacial prosthesis techniques, with retention with steel prongs and elastics.

Enamel microabrasion is a proven method of removing intrinsic and superficial defects from teeth, establishing esthetics with minimal loss of dental enamel. This article reports one case in which two different microabrasion techniques were used to remove fluorotic stains from teeth.
