Background: Chronic lymphedema is a progressive and inflammatory disease caused by impaired lymphatic transport.

Purpose: This study evaluates the effects of complex decongestive therapy (CDT) and aquatic physiotherapy on markers of the inflammatory process and lower limb volumes in individuals with lymphedema.

Methods: A randomized controlled clinical trial was carried out with three groups: patients with lymphedema submitted to CDT, patients with lymphedema submitted to aquatic physiotherapy, and control group of individuals without lymphedema.

Objective: This meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the evidence supporting antioxidant supplementation as an adjunct therapy to prevent oxidative damage and improve the clinical outcomes (mortality, length of hospital stay and duration of mechanical ventilation).

Methods: The search strategy for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involved the participation of two researchers who independently assessed the methodological quality of each full-text article that was available in the PubMed, ISI WEB of Knowledge and ScienceDirect databases.

Results: We extracted 110 studies from the past 10 years, but only 30 articles met the methodological criteria (RCT, blinded and statistically significant results), for a total of 241 animals and 256 patients.

Objective: To investigate the serum levels of IL-10 and IL-13 in patients with hepatosplenic schistosomiasis mansoni (HSM), evaluating the role of these cytokines in the development of hepatic fibrosis.

Methods: The study was prospective and analytical, developed at the Department of Surgery, Federal University of Pernambuco, Keizo Asami Laboratory of Immunology. We studied three groups: Group I - 25 patients with hepatosplenic schistosomiasis mansoni who were not submitted to surgery; Group II - 30 individuals who underwent splenectomy and ligature of left gastric vein; Group III - 33 subjects without hepatosplenic schistosomiasis mansoni or any other disease or condition that could compromise the hepatic functional reserve.
