A study screened 136 young pregnant women (≤25 years old) for Chlamydia trachomatis infection in Madrid, focusing on their urine samples after childbirth.
The prevalence of the infection among the women was found to be 18.4%, with a confidence interval between 11.9% and 24.9%.
The perinatal transmission rate of the infection to newborns was 35%, highlighting the importance of implementing antenatal screening programs for high-risk women.
