In this study, we aimed to examine the impact of high endurance training on vascular health parameters and immune-endocrine responses against modified low-density lipoprotein (LDL) particles. This observational, cross-sectional study included high endurance-trained and healthy non-trained subjects. Vascular ultrasound was used to assess vascular health parameters based on carotid intima-media thickness and endothelial function (flow-mediated dilation).

Studies have shown that the maternal gut microbiota pattern with hyperglycemia can be transmitted to the offspring. The study aimed to evaluate the gut microbiota of obese postpartum women with and without previous GDM and their offspring.

Methods: We performed cross-sectional anthropometric and laboratory analyses in young individuals with T1D.
Results: Among 181 participants, 87 were women and 94 were men (64%/78% normal weight, 27%/15% overweight and 9%/7% obese).

Enteroviruses are main candidates among environmental agents in the development of type 1 diabetes (T1D). However, the relationship between virus and the immune system response during T1D pathogenesis is heterogeneous. This is an interesting paradigm and the search for answers would help to highlight the role of viral infection in the etiology of T1D.

Background: Appropriate dietary recommendations represent a key part of secondary prevention in cardiovascular disease (CVD). We evaluated the effectiveness of the implementation of a nutritional program on quality of diet, cardiovascular events, and death in patients with established CVD.
Methods: In this open-label, multicenter trial conducted in 35 sites in Brazil, we randomly assigned (1:1) patients aged 45 years or older to receive either the BALANCE Program (experimental group) or conventional nutrition advice (control group).
Background: The effects of chronic exposure to exercise training on vascular biomarkers have been poorly explored.
Objective: Our study aimed to compare the amounts of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), and endothelial (EMP) and platelet (PMP) microparticles between professional runners and healthy controls.
Methods: Twenty-five half-marathon runners and 24 age- and gender-matched healthy controls were included in the study.
To evaluate the effects of long-term exposure to high-intensity training among professional runners on cardiac hypertrophy and subclinical atherosclerosis. Prospective study included runners of both sexes (n = 52) and age and gender matched controls (n = 57), without classical cardiovascular risk factors. Ventricular hypertrophy was quantified by echocardiography by linear method and carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) by 2-D images obtained by ultrasonography.

We recruited high-intensity athlete runners (n = 44) and controls (n = 51) to participate in the study. The carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT), interleukin 10 (IL-10), TNF-alpha, and the non-linear optical responses of LDL particle (Z-scan) were assessed.

Subjects And Methods: Five hundred and fourteen Brazilian individuals undergoing coronary angiography, without previously known diabetes mellitus (DM), had their glycemic status evaluated by both fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and HbA1c, being classified in normal (N), prediabetes (PD), and DM according to American Diabetes Association criteria.
Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death among individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). T2DM accelerates atherosclerosis alongside classical risk factors such as dyslipidemia and hypertension. This study aims to investigate the association of hyperglycemia and associated risk factors with CAD in outpatients with T2DM undergoing coronary angiography.

The role of milder hyperglycemic states such as prediabetes (PD) on CAD is debatable. Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) has recently been advocated as a diagnostic tool for diabetes mellitus (DM) and PD.
