Cervical subcutaneous emphysema and pneumomediastinum without pneumothorax are exceedingly rare complications following rhinoplasty, with limited cases reported in the literature. This report presents a case of revision septorhinoplasty using autologous costal cartilage, where the patient complained of a sore throat 36 hours postoperatively. On physical examination, cervical subcutaneous emphysema was palpated, and radiologic evaluation confirmed both cervical subcutaneous emphysema and pneumomediastinum.

Unlabelled: Infectious gastroenteritis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality, especially in nations with middle and low incomes. In a pediatric gastroenteritis patient, the aim was to determine the therapeutic impact of using the Gastrointestinal Panel in our clinical practice. A single-center retrospective study was designed to evaluate children who were admitted to the hospital for gastroenteritis and had a gastrointestinal panel between August 2021 and January 2024.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the impact of physical activity (PA) on sedentary behavior and body measurements in children and adolescents, highlighting a trend where physical activity decreases and sedentary time increases with age.
  • In a sample of 759 participants aged 6-17, results revealed children are less sedentary and more active than adolescents, with significant differences in body composition measurements based on physical activity levels.
  • The findings suggest that physically active individuals, especially boys, had lower body fat percentages and slimmer skinfold measurements compared to inactive peers, indicating that engaging in recommended levels of PA may mitigate obesity risks.

Content-based histopathology image retrieval (CBHIR) can assist in the diagnosis of different diseases. The retrieval procedure can be complex and time-consuming if high-dimensional features are required. Thus, hashing techniques are employed to address these issues by mapping the feature space into binary values of varying lengths.

Purpose: The auricular fillet flap (AFF) is also used to reconstruct defects of the periauricular region and scalp. The aim of this study was to evaluate patients in whom the total AFF was used to reconstruct defects formed after the resection the skin of the auricular and parotid regions.

Methods: Seven patients, who presented at the researchers' hospital between January 2017 and July 2020 with masses involving, to different degrees, the parotid region, the periauricular region, the external auditory canal, or the auricular anterior surface skin were retrospectively evaluated.

Objective:  This study aimed to investigate the effect of the low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) on the healing of Achilles tendinopathy in a rat model induced by type 1 collagenase.

Methods:  The study was conducted on 144 Achilles tendons of 72 Wistar albino female rats with typical activity and weighing 300-350 g. The model of Achilles tendinopathy was created by injecting type 1 collagenase.

Purpose: Wheelchair users experience many barriers to physical activity as affordable and accessible exercise equipment options are limited. Thus, the home-based adapted rower (aROW) and gym-based aROW were developed. The objectives were to determine: 1) wheelchair users' preferences, perspectives, facilitators, and barriers to using the home-based versus the gym-based aROW, 2) perceived usability of the home and gym aROWs, and 3) recommendations to adapt the aROW further for home and community use.

This has become a significant study area in recent years because of its use in brain-machine interaction (BMI). The robustness problem of emotion classification is one of the most basic approaches for improving the quality of emotion recognition systems. One of the two main branches of these approaches deals with the problem by extracting the features using manual engineering and the other is the famous artificial intelligence approach, which infers features of EEG data.

When the mutation affects the melanocytes of the body, a condition called melanoma results which is one of the deadliest skin cancers. Early detection of cutaneous melanoma is vital for raising the chances of survival. Melanoma can be due to inherited defective genes or due to environmental factors such as excessive sun exposure.

Aim/objections: The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of a central line maintenance bundle in preventing catheter-related (implanted venous access devices, port) Candida bloodstream infections.

Methods: The study encompassed two distinct time periods, namely, pre-bundle and bundle. The number of catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSI) episodes per catheter days for each timeframe was determined.

Objectives: To examine factors that account for disparities in cancer clinical trial participation.

Sample & Setting: Pooled data from Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System surveys between 2010 and 2017.

Methods & Variables: Univariate and binary logistic regression analyses were used to examine the associations between participation in clinical trials and demographic and health characteristics, using SAS® procedures to account for complex sample features.

Background: Complications that may develop in children after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections are unknown. The `Long COVID` syndrome is a new process that can also be identified in children. Therefore, in this study, the conditions that may develop in children after COVID-19 infection were discussed, and the indications for rehospitalizations were reviewed.

Changes in gene expression with aging are associated with a decline in physical and cognitive abilities. Here, we investigated the changes in mRNA and protein expression of TSPAN8 and SERT in the different parts of the brain for different age group rats. Our protein analysis revealed that aging mainly triggers SERT gene expression in the cerebellum and hippocampus, showing that an increase in mRNA expression correlates with protein expression.

Article Synopsis
  • Catheter-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) is a severe risk associated with central venous access devices, contributing to higher mortality and morbidity rates in patients.
  • A study was conducted at a pediatric hospital to analyze the implementation of central line bundles aimed at preventing CLABSIs, comparing data from a prebundle period (2007-2013) and a bundle period (2013-2020).
  • Results showed a significant decrease in the CLABSI rate from 10.5 to 3.6 per 1000 central line days after implementing the bundle, alongside an increase in the average time to develop an infection.

Background: Urological involvement is rare in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Priapism, one of the urological involvements, was reported as one of the COVID-19 comorbidities in the elderly male patient group but has rarely been reported in the pediatric age group.

Case: Herein, a previously healthy 8-year-old patient with COVID-19-associated priapism, which is rare in children, is presented.

The animal mitogenomes which undergone a reductive evolution has an obvious loss of coding capacity compared to their known closest relatives, but it has not yet been fully investigated why and how the intergenic regions do not encode protein and have no known functions, are stably maintained, replicated, and transmitted by the genome. These relatively small intergenic regions may not be under neutral evolution and they may have functional and/or regulatory roles that have yet to be identified. Here, the distribution pattern, sequence content and location of a novel sequence motif of 'WWWGHTW' were bioinformatically investigated and characterised by constructing a sampling mitogenome dataset of 1889 species from 14 phyla representing the clade of Bilateria.

GO-NH (amino functionalized graphene oxide) was synthesized by grafting (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane onto the surface GO (graphene oxide). The GO-NH with a higher surface area and many active sites was characterized and its effectiveness in removing Rhod B dye and Ni(II) ions from wastewater by adsorption was observed. The effects of pH, time, and strange ions on the adsorption efficiency were investigated.
