  • Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital gastrointestinal anomaly, found in about 2% of people, and is rarely symptomatic in adults.
  • This case highlights a 46-year-old male who experienced abdominal pain due to Meckel's diverticulitis, which had formed a fistula with the abdominal wall, and was also found to have a benign inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) on imaging.
  • After surgery for the diverticulitis and complications like an anastomotic leak, the patient ultimately recovered, and this case emphasizes the importance of thorough diagnostic work to uncover incidental findings that can impact treatment.

Introduction: The advances in immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) were relatively slow in rare tumors. Therefore, we conducted a multi-center study evaluating the efficacy of ICI monotherapy and the combination of ICIs with chemotherapy (CT) in patients with advanced rare tumors.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we included 93 patients treated with ICIs for NCI-defined rare tumors from the 12 cancer centers in Turkey.

While COVID-19 pandemic has become an enormous and devastating pandemic for today's world, studies on the morbidity of the disease mainly show the disease's progress with pneumonia and thromboembolic pathologies. In this disease with a predisposition to thromboembolism, findings of nontraumatic focused hemorrhages are unexpected. As spontaneous retroperitoneal hematoma is a serious condition with the absence of symptoms, creating a challenge for diagnosis, it should also be considered in COVID-19 which is thought to be predisposed to thromboembolism.

Introduction: Voice and swallowing symptoms are frequently reported after thyroidectomy even without laryngeal nerve injury. We aimed to evaluate the effect of strap muscle transection on voice and swallowing outcome after thyroidectomy.

Methods: Group 1 (G1) consisted of 17 patients who had their strap muscles transected during thyroidectomy and group 2 (G2) consisted of 17 patients who had their strap muscles preserved during thyroidectomy.

Objectives: Laparoscopic surgery (LS) is a safe and widely used technique. During LS, carbon dioxide insufflation may produce significant hemodynamic and ventilatory consequences, such as elevated intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) and hypercarbia. Splanchnic and cardiovascular blood flow can be affected by the elevated IAP, which can result in ischemia in the splanchnic region prior to hemodynamic changes.

  • The anal fistula is a permanent infection that creates a tunnel between the anal canal and skin, typically treated surgically.
  • One effective surgical method is the modified ligation of the intersphincteric fistula tract, which maintains the integrity of the sphincters and showed an 87.5% success rate in a study of 56 patients.
  • The procedure is advantageous as it simplifies complex fistulas with minimal risk of damage to the anal sphincters.

  • Objective: This study investigates the early complications related to different surgical techniques for closing loop ileostomy in patients with colorectal cancer, focusing on stapled and handsewn methods.
  • Methods: Researchers analyzed data from 198 patients who had loop ileostomy reversals from 2014 to 2019, categorizing them into three groups based on the closure technique and assessing complications within 30 days post-surgery using statistical methods.
  • Results: The study found that handsewn techniques were associated with lower rates of postoperative ileus and wound infections compared to stapler methods, indicating potential advantages of handsewn closures in postoperative recovery.

Background: The standard treatment of acute appendicitis, which is a rapidly progressive inflammatory disease, remains surgery. However, several studies have suggested antibiotics treatment for acute appendicitis, especially in centers where surgery at all hours is not possible. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the relationship between the preoperative waiting period and postoperative complications in patients who underwent interval surgery following conservative management during the same admission.

Objective: Thyroid-stimulating hormone/thyrotropin (TSH) is known to induce malignancies and tissue growth of the thyroid gland. While the relationship of higher levels of TSH with advanced stages of cancer had been published in previous studies, the relationship of the tumor with the clinicopathological factors had not been completely evaluated. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between highly risky clinicopathological factors with preoperative high levels of TSH.
