The risk of inducing hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) constitutes the main challenge associated with insulin therapy for diabetes. Insulin doses must be adjusted to ensure that blood glucose values are within the normal range, but matching insulin doses to fluctuating glucose levels is difficult because even a slightly higher insulin dose than needed can lead to a hypoglycaemic incidence, which can be anything from uncomfortable to life-threatening. It has therefore been a long-standing goal to engineer a glucose-sensitive insulin that can auto-adjust its bioactivity in a reversible manner according to ambient glucose levels to ultimately achieve better glycaemic control while lowering the risk of hypoglycaemia.

Background: Confidence in childhood vaccination is high in Norway and the Norwegian Childhood Immunization Programme (NCIP) achieves high overall coverage rates. However, lower coverage has been observed for some immigrant groups, including Polish immigrants who represent the largest immigrant group in Norway. Anti-vaccine sentiments and increased refusal of mandatory childhood vaccination has been on the rise in Poland, but it is unknown whether such attitudes also apply to Polish immigrants in Norway, as they experience a different vaccination policy and perhaps also different attitudes to vaccines.

Maternal vaccination against pertussis is safe and provides effective protection against pertussis for the newborn, but the vaccine coverage rate remains generally low. Norway is currently planning for introduction of routine maternal pertussis vaccination. To assess maternal pertussis vaccination acceptance among pregnant Norwegian women, we surveyed women at 20-40 weeks gestation in 2019.

With the objective to investigate associations between sociodemographic characteristics and participation in interventions designed to increase participation in cervical cancer screening among under-screened women, we randomized a random sample of 6000 women in Norway aged 35-69 years who had not attended cervical screening for ≥10 years to receive either (i) a reminder to attend regular screening (control), (ii) an offer to order a self-sampling kit (opt-in), or (iii) a self-sampling kit unsolicited (send-to-all). We analyzed how sociodemographic characteristics were associated with screening participation within and between screening arms. In the send-to-all arm, increased screening participation ranged from 17.

Aim: There is a need for methods that can provide valid assessment tools in a follow-up programme without great financial costs. This study assessed the accuracy of the 60-month Ages and Stages Questionnaire as a screening tool to predict a low intelligence quotient score at 6 years in children born very preterm.

Methods: Totally, 54 children participated in a six-year follow-up study, which included an intelligence quotient test at 6 years of age and a 60-month Ages and Stages Questionnaire at four and a half or 5 years of age at respond.

Article Synopsis
  • The SafeBoosC-III trial studied extremely preterm infants to see if monitoring brain oxygen levels helped reduce death or brain injury, but it didn't show a difference compared to regular care.
  • Researchers are now following up with these infants when they turn 2 years old to check on their health and development.
  • They plan to gather information from health records and parents to see how many children have died or developed disabilities.

This was an exploratory, prospective, longitudinal, cohort study that aimed to establish "healthy" reference levels related to growth parameters and glucose metabolites in preterm infants. This was conducted to further investigate growth and metabolic disturbances potentially related to neonatal illness. The study sample consisted of 108 preterm infants born before 32 weeks in 2018-2019 in the Capital Region of Denmark.

Background: In 2009, Norway initiated routine quadrivalent HPV (qHPV) vaccination for girls at 12-13 years of age to protect against virus types causing cervical cancer, HPV16/18, and HPV6/11 which cause anogenital warts (AGW). We wanted to investigate qHPV vaccine effectiveness (VE) against AGW in females before and after first AGW episode and to assess the impact of female vaccination in males.

Materials And Methods: QHPV vaccination and AGW episodes were collected for the time period 2006-2016 for birth cohorts 1975-2003.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study evaluated the effectiveness of switching from intravenous to oral antibiotics (amoxicillin) for treating neonates with early-onset infection (EOI) and included data from 835 term-born neonates over two years.
  • - Results showed that 90% of neonates with probable infection successfully switched to oral therapy, with no readmissions due to infection and a shorter average hospital stay compared to those on intravenous therapy.
  • - Although oral therapy proved safe and beneficial for easing the treatment process, the overall use of antibiotics did not increase after implementing switch therapy.

Nonattendance for cervical cancer screening is often understood in terms of a lack of 'appropriate' or 'correct' knowledge about the risks and prevention of the disease. Few studies have explored how lay persons-the users themselves-interpret and contextualise scientific knowledge about cervical cancer. In this study, we address the following research question: How is the epidemiology of cervical cancer and its prevention discussed among women who are late for cervical cancer screening in Norway? We completed nine focus group interviews (FGIs) with 41 women who had postponed cervical screening.

Objectives: Prematurity, being small for gestational age and early neonatal ward admission are the major neonatal conditions that may interfere with breastfeeding supportive practices in infants born at gestational age ≥35+0 weeks. We aimed to investigate the associations between gestational age, small for gestational age, early neonatal ward admission and exclusive breastfeeding at one and four months.

Methods: A register-based cohort-study of all Danish singletons with gestational age ≥35+0 weeks born in 2014-2015.

Colorimetric sensing technology for the detection of explosives, drugs, and their precursor chemicals is an important and effective approach. In this work, we use various machine learning models to detect these substances from colorimetric sensing experiments conducted in controlled environments. The detection experiments based on the response of a colorimetric chip containing 26 chemo-responsive dyes indicate that homemade explosives (HMEs) such as hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), triacetone triperoxide (TATP), and methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) used in improvised explosives devices are detected with true positive rate (TPR) of 70-75%, 73-90% and 60-82% respectively.

Background: Pseudoprogression (PsPD) is a major diagnostic challenge in the follow-up of patients with glioblastoma (GB) after chemoradiotherapy (CRT). Conventional imaging signs and parameters derived from diffusion and perfusion-MRI have yet to prove their reliability in clinical practice for an accurate differential diagnosis. Here, we tested these parameters and combined them with radiomic features (RFs), clinical data, and MGMT promoter methylation status using machine- and deep-learning (DL) models to distinguish PsPD from Progressive disease.

High and equitable COVID-19 vaccination coverage is important for pandemic control and prevention of health inequity. However, little is known about socioeconomic correlates of booster vaccination coverage. In this cross-sectional study of all Norwegian adults in the national vaccination program ( = 4,190,655), we use individual-level registry data to examine coverage by levels of household income and education of primary (≥2 doses) and booster (≥3 doses) vaccination against COVID-19.
