Objective: To evaluate, using ultrasound, the distribution of abdominal fat in obese prepubertal children, as well as its possible correlation with metabolic changes due to obesity.
Materials And Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of prepubescent children: 77 obese children (33 girls and 44 boys), with a mean age of 7.

Objective: To establish, among the cut-off values for the homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) cited in the literature, the best in identifying metabolic syndrome (MS) in obese and overweight children.
Methods: A total of 106 pre-pubertal children were studied. The definition of MS was adapted from that of the International Diabetes Federation.

Background: To compare bone mineral density (BMD) in children and adolescents with celiac disease (CD) and control subjects and to evaluate diet adequacy and calcium metabolism in patients with CD.
Methods: Thirty patients with asymptomatic CD (17 children, 13 adolescents), on a gluten-free diet, and 23 healthy subjects were studied. BMD of the lumbar spine (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) was performed on all patients and control subjects.
