Background: Dementia onset in those aged <65 years (young onset dementia, YOD) has dramatic individual and societal consequences. In the context of population aging, data on YOD are of major importance to anticipate needs for planning and allocation of health and social resources. Few studies have provided precise frequency estimates of YOD.

The objective was to quantify the relationship between deprivation and national breast cancer screening programme (NBCSP) participation at an ecological level in mainland France. Data from 4,805,390 women-living in 36,209 municipalities within 95 departments-participating in the 2013-2014 NBCSP were analysed using the French Deprivation Index (FDep). FDep population quintiles by municipality were computed to describe NBCSP participation according to deprivation.

Nuclear power plants (NPPs) release toxic emissions into the environment that may affect neighboring populations. This ecologic study was designed to investigate the possibility of an excess incidence of cancer in the vicinity of French NPPs by examining the incidence by municipality of 12 types of cancer in the population aged 15 years and older during the 1995-2011 period. Population exposure to pollution was estimated on the basis of distance from towns of residence to the NPP.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed the effects of repeated g-FOBT screening on the positive predictive value (PPV) for advanced colorectal neoplasia, including advanced adenomas (AA) and colorectal cancer (CRC), in 98,031 average-risk adults aged 50-74.
  • Results showed a PPV of 24.5%, higher in men than women (30.7% vs 17.7%), with an increase in detection rates for proximal AA and CRC in subsequent screenings.
  • Factors like age, gender, and prior screening episodes were significantly linked to higher detection rates, particularly with more advanced-stage cancers found in later screenings, highlighting the importance of regular monitoring.
