Background: Identification of biomarkers to optimize treatment strategies for early-stage triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is crucial. This study presents the development and validation of TNBC-DX, a novel test aimed at predicting both short- and long-term outcomes in early-stage TNBC. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between TNBC-DX and efficacy outcomes [pathologic complete response (pCR), distant disease-free survival (DDFS) or event-free survival (EFS), and overall survival (OS)] in the validation cohorts.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study was conducted with 38 fusion-positive NSCLC samples, comparing NGS with FISH and RT-PCR, revealing that while NGS identified all cases, some fusions were missed by FISH and RT-PCR, highlighting limitations in these lesser methods.
  • * The findings suggest that understanding the strengths and weaknesses of different testing techniques is crucial for improving clinical protocols, reinforcing the need for NGS as the primary approach to ensure accurate fusion detection

Purpose: Stromal tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (sTIL) are associated with pathologic complete response (pCR) and long-term outcomes for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) in the setting of anthracycline-based chemotherapy. The impact of sTILs on refining outcomes beyond prognostic information provided by pCR in anthracycline-free neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is not known.

Experimental Design: This is a pooled analysis of two studies where patients with stage I (T>1 cm)-III TNBC received carboplatin (AUC 6) plus docetaxel (75 mg/m2; CbD) NAC.

Purpose: Molecular subtyping based on gene expression profiling (i.e., PAM50 assay) aids in determining the prognosis and treatment of breast cancer (BC), particularly in hormone receptor (HR)-positive/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative tumors, where luminal A and B subtypes have different prognoses and treatments.

A composite optical bench made up of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) skin and aluminum honeycomb has been developed for the Tunable Magnetograph instrument (TuMag) for the SUNRISE III mission within the NASA Long Duration Balloon Program. This optical bench has been designed to meet lightweight and low sensitivity to thermal gradient requirements, resulting in a low Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE). In addition to the flight model, a breadboard model identical to the flight one has been manufactured, including embedded fiber Bragg temperature and strain sensors.

Background: Ischemia-reperfusion injury is one of the most critical phenomena in lung transplantation and causes primary graft failure. Its pathophysiology remains incompletely understood, although the inflammatory response and apoptosis play key roles. Lidocaine has anti-inflammatory properties.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is highly responsive to neoadjuvant polychemotherapy regimens including anthracyclines, taxanes, and, more recently, carboplatin. However, there is inadequate information on the individual contribution of each of these agents to the global activity of the combinations, and the use of combinations of up to four of these drugs is associated with relevant toxicity. Identifying single-drug activity in the clinical neoadjuvant setting is challenging.

Long-term survivors (LS) of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) without driver alterations, displaying an overall survival (OS) of more than 3 years, comprise around 10% of cases in several series treated with chemotherapy. There are classical prognosis factors for these cases [stage, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG), etc.], but more data are required in the literature.

Stents have become the most successful device to treat advanced atherosclerotic lesions. However, one of the main issues with these interventions is the development of restenosis. The coating of stents with antiproliferative substances to reduce this effect is now standard, although such drugs can also delay re-endothelialization of the intima.

Background: Full RNA-Seq is a fundamental research tool for whole transcriptome analysis. However, it is too costly and time consuming to be used in routine clinical practice. We evaluated the transcript quantification agreement between RNA-Seq and a digital multiplexed gene expression platform, and the subtype call after running the PAM50 assay in a series of breast cancer patients classified as triple negative by IHC/FISH.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) requires the iden- tification of reliable predictors of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT). For this purpose, we aimed to evaluate the performance of the TNBCtype-4 classifier in a cohort of patients with TNBC treated with neoadjuvant carboplatin and docetaxel (TCb). Patients with TNBC were accrued in a nonrandomized trial of neoadjuvant carboplatin AUC 6 and docetaxel 75 mg/m for six cycles.

The identification of patients at risk for breast cancer by genetic testing has proven to reduce breast cancer mortality. In 2010, due to a lack of systematization in hereditary cancer assistance in our center, we implemented a multidisciplinary Heredofamilial Cancer Unit (HFCU). We analyze if the HFCU improved the rates of referrals and preventive management of breast cancer patients with genetic risk.

Article Synopsis
  • Prolonged seizures and status epilepticus are serious neurological emergencies that require quick and effective treatment to lower risks of severe outcomes.
  • Benzodiazepines, particularly rectal diazepam, are the go-to medications for managing seizures, but oromucosal midazolam has been approved for young patients and is shown to be more effective and user-friendly.
  • Midazolam is safer, easier to administer, and offers better cost-effectiveness, making it a preferred option for treating extended seizures in the community.

Introduction: To be able to treat prolonged epileptic crises practical, safe and effective rescue medication is needed. Today, the standard treatment in community healthcare is rectal diazepam. The introduction of a buccal solution of midazolam opens up a new perspective in their treatment.

Introduction: Hereditary angioedema is a disease with low prevalence and high heterogeneity with regards to the severity of the clinical picture, which makes the diagnosis difficult and requires the need for early start of specific treatment in order to prevent complications.

Objective: To propose a decision algorithm for hereditary angioedema (HAE), based on the evidence available on the diagnosis, clinical assessment, and treatment. The aim is to present the available therapeutic options as well as a decision algorithm to select the most efficient therapy at each time.

Development in the implementation of the programme of the anticoagulated patient self-management concludes with the follow-up. Your objective is to guide, support, advise and provide the patient with the necessary support material and training and improve their autonomy and quality of life. Contacts are established through both scheduled and unscheduled visits and phone calls.

We report a patient who developed pericarditis and pericardial tamponade coinciding with polymyalgia rheumatica onset. Our patient did not show any clinical sign of vasculitis; temporal artery biopsies were negative for giant cell arteritis. Pericardial biopsy in our case shows inflammatory perivascular lymphocytary infiltrates thus we believe pericardial effusion has an inflammatory-immunologic origin.
