Caregiver burden and its predictors in adult epilepsy patients.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate caregiver burden and factors associated with caregiver burden in caregivers of adults with epilepsy.

Materials And Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 107 patients with epilepsy and 107 their primary caregivers. Personal information form including sociodemographic data and Zarit Caregiver Burden Inventory (ZBI), were used for caregivers, and patient information form, Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale (MoCA), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Epilepsy Quality of Life Scale (QoLIE-31) and Stigma Scale were used for patients.

About 50% of the solar energy absorbed at the Earth's surface drives evaporation, fueling the water cycle that affects various renewable energy resources, such as wind and hydropower. Recent advances demonstrate our nascent ability to convert evaporation energy into work, yet there is little understanding about the potential of this resource. Here we study the energy available from natural evaporation to predict the potential of this ubiquitous resource.

Neglected bilateral congenital dislocation of the patella.

Congenital dislocation of the patella is a disorder that presents with dysfunction in extensor mechanism. Although congenital dislocation of the patella mostly occurs in children with genetic disorders, it may also occur in totally healthy children, despite rarely. Biomechanical comparison of supraacetabular external fixation and anterior pelvic bridge plating.

Comparison of two different anesthesia techniques for tourniquet pain with the use of forearm tourniquet.

Purpose: The purpose of this prospective, randomized study was to compare the effectiveness of two different anesthesia techniques for tourniquet pain in minor surgeries of the hand with the use of the forearm tourniquet.

Methods: In group 1, the area under the tourniquet was anesthetized circumferentially using a cream composed of 5% lidocaine and 5% prilocaine (Emla Astra). In group 2, the area under the tourniquet was anesthetized with a ring-type infiltration of the skin and subcutaneus tissues using 50% diluted Citanest solution using 22 G x 3 1/2'' size spinal needle (Sujia) with three injections.

The use of a low-profile Ilizarov external fixator in the treatment of complex fractures and non-unions of the distal femur.

The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a modified (low-profile) Ilizarov fixation in the treatment of complex fractures of the distal femur such asseptic or aseptic non-unions following previous surgeries, osteoporotic fractures, and high-grade open fractures. A pilot study was performed for setting up the Dokuz Eylül University Breast Tumor DNA Bank (DEUBTB) to facilitate the sharing of tumor DNA/RNA samples and related data from cases collected by collaborators specializing in the breast cancer diseases between 2004 and 2006. The pilot study aimed to provide answers for certain questions on: (1) ethical concerns (informing the volunteer for donating specimen, anonymizing the sample information, procedure on sample request), (2) obtaining and processing samples (technical issues, flowchart), (3) storing samples and their products (storing forms and conditions), (4) clinical database (which clinical data to store), (5) management organization (quality and quantity of personnel, flowchart for management relations), (6) financial issues (establishment and maintenance costs). When the bank had 64 samples, even though it is quite ready to supply samples for a research project, it revealed many questions on details that may be answered in more than one way, pointing that all biobanks need to be controlled by a higher degree of management party which develops and offers quality standards for these establishments.

Rotator interval dimensions in different shoulder arthroscopy positions: a cadaveric study.

The rotator interval was defined as a triangular structure, where the base of the triangle was the coracoid base, the upper border was the anterior margin of the supraspinatus, and the lower border was the superior margin of the subscapularis muscle-tendon unit. We evaluated the rotator interval dimensions in 15 shoulders from 10 lightly embalmed adult cadavers in 3 shoulder arthroscopy positions: 0 degrees of abduction and 30 degrees of flexion (beach chair [BC]), 45 degrees of abduction and 30 degrees of flexion (lateral decubitus 1), and 70 degrees of abduction and 30 degrees of flexion (lateral decubitus 2). In each shoulder position, measurements were made in neutral rotation (NR), 45 degrees of external rotation (ER), and 45 degrees of internal rotation (IR).
