Winter legume cover crops or double-cropping in high N-fertilizer maize-based sprinkler-irrigated systems enhance agroecosystem diversity and potentially increase yields. However, the effects on direct NO emissions and global warming potential (GWP) have not been fully established. For two years, in the Ebro Valley (Spain), four maize-based systems consisted of: long-season maize (Zea mays) with winter fallow period (F-LSM) the reference system; or after a leguminous cover crop (common vetch, Vicia sativa) (CC-LSM); and short-season maize after a cereal crop (barley, Hordeum vulgare) (B-SSM) or after a leguminous crop (pea, Pisum sativum) (P-SSM).

Mediterranean coastal areas have been occupied and developed intensively for a long time facing issues related to agricultural production, urbanization, tourism, preservation of natural resources often linked to salinity. This article explores the relationship between historical land planning and water management, and current soil and water salinity to gain insights into future projections. Soil samples (1185) were collected in a coastal plain of 114 km in the south of France and saturated paste extract Electrical Conductivity (EC) was deduced from 1:5 dilution.

The Lena, a large river that drains the northern coldest region of the Northern Hemisphere, is deeply influenced by the continuous permafrost and degradation of the frozen ground has been shown to be the main cause of the marked increase in water discharge. The first objective of this study conducted on the middle Lena was to analyze the island dynamics for the last 50 years (1967 to 2017). Several morphological parameters were surveyed using a GIS on seven series of aerial photographs and satellite images of a 100 km-long reach: island size, eroded and deposited areas, position and morphology of the islands.

Background: Urinary tract infections caused by extended-spectrum beta-lactamase producing Enterobacterales (ESBL-EB) are a problem increasing in our clinical practice.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcome in patients who received short (≤ 7 days) versus long courses (>7 days) of antimicrobial therapy for complicated ESBL-EB urinary tract infections.

Methods: This is a retrospective and observational study.

In this study we evaluated the leaf surface properties of maize populations native to different water availability environments. Leaf surface topography, wettability and gas exchange performance of five maize populations from the Sahara desert, dry (south) and humid (north-western) areas of Spain were analysed. Differences in wettability, stomatal and trichome densities, surface free energy and solubility parameter values were recorded between populations and leaf sides.

MEDIMAN (Medical Image MANagement) is a web information system (WIS) for medical image management and processing currently used by neuroscientists and clinicians at several medical and research centres in Spain for research and clinical trials. While developing the MEDIMAN database (DB) we encountered several design challenges unlike those arising in traditional DBs. This paper describes the development of MEDIMAN focusing on the database and the use of the database development process proposed in Midas, a model-driven framework for WIS development.

Nitrate contamination of surface waters has been linked to irrigated agriculture across the world. We determined the NO3-N loads in the drainage waters of two sprinkler-irrigated watersheds located in the Ebro River basin (Spain) and their relationship to irrigation and N management. Crop water requirements, irrigation, N fertilization, and the volume and NO3-N concentration of drainage waters were measured or estimated during two-year (Watershed A; 494 irrigated ha) and one-year (Watershed B; 470 irrigated ha) study periods.
