The suitability evaluation of any industrial process should rely on economic, technical, social and, in particular, environmental aspects. The Commission Recommendation 2013/179/UE enables the improvement and the harmonization of the conventional evaluation of environmental footprints, such as LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), Carbon and Water Footprint, by suggesting the assessment of life cycle environmental performance of products and organisations (PEF, OEF). Novelty aspects reside in including new impact categories (namely, human toxicity cancer effects, human toxicity not-cancer effects and eco-toxicity).

Background: Water coolers are popular in office buildings and commercial stores and the quality of this source of drinking water has the potential to cause waterborne outbreaks, especially in sensitive and immunocompromised subjects. The aim of this study was to determine the quality of water plumbed in coolers from commercial stores in comparison with tap water in Italy.

Apelin is an endogenous ligand of the human orphan receptor APJ (orphan G protein-coupled receptor). This peptide is produced through processing from the C-terminal portion in the pre-proprotein consisting of 77 amino acid residues and exists in multiple molecular forms. Although the main physiological functions of apelin have not been clarified yet, it has been demonstrated that apelin partially suppresses cytokine production from mouse spleen and, specifically, induces the promotion of extracellular acidification and inhibition of cAMP production in Chinese hamster ovary cells.

The expression of cyclin T1 in an autoptic case of AIDS-related cachexia was investigated by immunohistochemistry. Cyclin T1 was recently identified, together with cdk9 (previously named PITALRE), as part of the TAK multiprotein complex, a co-factor targeted by the human immunodeficiency virus Type 1 (HIV-1) protein named Tat, suggesting a role for this complex in transcription elongation. Although studies on mRNA and protein expression have shown that cyclin T1 is ubiquitous in adult human tissues, no data have yet been reported regarding the expression of this protein in different cell lineages. Lung cancer is a worldwide problem and in many countires it is the most lethal malignancy. Because relapse is frequent after resection of non small cell lung cancer, an urgent need exists to define prognostic factors which could help in choosing the best therapeutic approach. We performed immunohistochemistry on 60 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded non small cell lung cancer specimens in order to evaluate the frequency of cyclin D1 overexpression, and to relate it to the degree of malignancy of these tumors and to the overall survival time of the patients.
