Objective: People with mood disorders have increased risk of comorbid medical diseases versus the general population. It is paramount to identify interventions to improve physical health in this population.

Methods: Umbrella review of meta-analyses of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) on pharmacological/non-pharmacological interventions for physical health outcomes/intolerability-related discontinuation in mood disorders (any age).

Characterization of upper limb movement-related EEG dynamics through fractional integrated autoregressive modeling.

The analysis of electroencephalographic (EEG) series associated with movement performance is important for understanding the cortical neural control on motor tasks. While the existence of long-range correlations in physiological dynamics has been reported in previous studies, such a characterization in EEG series gathered during upper-limb movements has not been performed yet. To this end, here we report on a fractional integrated autoregressive analysis of EEG series during different functional classes of motor actions and resting phase, and data were gathered from 33 healthy volunteers.

Clinical characteristics and long-term outcome of lung lobe torsions in cats: a review of 10 cases (2000-2021).

Case Series Summary: Lung lobe torsion is rare in cats. The aim of this multi-institution retrospective study was to describe clinical and diagnostic findings, treatments and outcomes of lung lobe torsion (LLT) in 10 cats. Dyspnoea and tachypnoea were the most common clinical signs.

Intraoperative Lung Ultrasound (ILU) for the Assessment of Pulmonary Nodules.

Background: The primary aim of this study was to confirm the validity of intraoperative lung ultrasound (ILU) as a safe and effective method of localization for difficult to visualize pulmonary nodules during Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) and open thoracotomy. The secondary aim was to enhance knowledge on the morphological patterns of presentation of pulmonary nodules on direct ultrasound examination.

Materials And Methods: 131 patients with lung nodule and indication for surgery were enrolled.

Association Between Metabolic and Hormonal Derangements and Professional Exposure to Urban Pollution in a High Intensity Traffic Area.

Studies suggest a relation between exposure to air particulate matter (PM) pollution and greater cardiovascular morbidity, as well as increased risk for obesity and diabetes. We aimed to identify association(s) between nutritional and metabolic status and exposure to environmental pollution in a cohort of policemen exposed to high levels of air pollution. We considered adult municipal policemen, working in an urban area at high-traffic density with documented high levels of air PM (exposed group) compared to non-exposed policemen.

Triple Pelvic Osteotomy Fixed with Lag Screw for the Treatment of Pelvic Canal Stenosis in Five Cats.

Objective:  The aim of this study was to describe the technique and the clinical outcome of cats with obstipation as a result of pelvic canal narrowing, treated using an alternative triple pelvic osteotomy technique.

Methods:  Five cats with obstipation as a result of pelvic canal narrowing due to pelvic fracture malunion or secondary hyperparathyroidism were treated by triple pelvic osteotomy. After performing the iliac osteotomy and medial partial cortical debridement (4/5 cases), the pelvic canal was widened by moving the caudal fragment of the ilium to the lateral aspect of the cranial fragment.

CSF cutoffs for MCI due to AD depend on APOEε4 carrier status.

Amyloid and tau pathological accumulation should be considered for Alzheimer's disease (AD) definition and before subjects' enrollment in disease-modifying trials. Although age, APOEε4, and sex influence cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarker levels, none of these variables are considered by current normality/abnormality cutoffs. Using baseline CSF data from 2 independent cohorts (PharmaCOG/European Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative and Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative), we investigated the effect of age, APOEε4 status, and sex on CSF Aβ42/P-tau distribution and cutoff extraction by applying mixture models with covariates.

Enhanced recovery pathways in thoracic surgery from Italian VATS Group: perioperative analgesia protocols.

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is a minimally invasive technique that allows a faster recovery after thoracic surgery. Although enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) principles seem reasonably applicable to thoracic surgery, there is little literature on the application of such a strategy in this context. In regard to pain management, ERAS pathways promote the adoption of a multimodal strategy, tailored to the patients.

Background: Adequate nutrition of critically ill patients plays a key role in the modulation of metabolic response to stress.

Objective: This paper presents the development of a protocol for a randomized controlled trial (RCT) aimed at comparing clinical outcomes of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) administered with standard and protein-fortified diet. Together with the RCT study protocol, the results of the observational analysis conducted to assess the feasibility of the RCT are presented.

Heartworm Removal Guided by Transesophageal Echocardiography in a Dog with Naturally Acquired Caval Syndrome.

A 14 mo old shih tzu was referred for dyspnea, hemoptysis, and hematuria. Heartworm disease with caval syndrome was diagnosed by laboratory tests, thoracic radiography, and transthoracic echocardiography. The minimally invasive heartworm removal procedure was performed using flexible alligator forceps guided by transesophageal echocardiography.

Management of severe head injury with brain exposure in three loggerhead sea turtles Caretta caretta.

The loggerhead Caretta caretta is the most common sea turtle in the Mediterranean. Currently, sea turtles are considered endangered, mainly due to the impact of human activities. Among traumatic lesions, those involving the skull, if complicated by brain exposure, are often life-threatening.

Pharmacokinetic behavior of meloxicam in loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) after intramuscular and intravenous administration.

Data on reptile analgesia are scarce for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and opioids and almost completely lacking in sea turtles, even though emergencies requiring correct pain management are very frequent in their rehabilitative medicine; therefore, dosage regimens extrapolated from other species involve the risk of clinical failure and damage to the animals. We describe the pharmacokinetic behavior of meloxicam in the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta). We chose meloxicam because of its selective anti-cyclooxygenase-2 activity and lesser adverse side effects.

Thromboprophylaxis in ambulatory lung cancer treatment.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, are common problems experienced by patients with lung cancer that can impact treatment plans, prognoses, and survival. Patients with lung cancer are at greatest risk for development of VTE in the ambulatory care treatment setting. Literature does exist on VTE management for medical and surgical oncology inpatients, as well as clinical guidelines for inpatient prophylaxis; however, published evidence is lacking on outpatient risk and thromboprophylaxis in medical oncology outpatients, particularly patients with lung cancer.

Anticyclic-citrullinated protein antibodies in the diagnosis of ophthalmic inflammatory disease.

While rheumatoid factor (RF) testing has been previously used in the detection of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), its effectiveness has been limited by poor rates of sensitivity and specificity and its positivity in multiple other disease states. Given its enhanced specificity, quantification of anticyclic-citrullinated protein (anti-CCP) antibodies has emerged as a standard in molecular testing for RA. Despite the importance of this test in clinical rheumatology, we are unaware of any reports of its use in the detection of uveitis or orbital disease.

Cardiac arrest caused by Barlow's syndrome or by stress cardiomyopathy?

We describe a case of out-of-hospital Cardiac Arrest (CA) in a patient with Barlow's Syndrome (BS) and features of Stress Cardiomyopathy (SC) (or Apical Ballooning Syndrome or Tako-Tsubo). The patient experienced CA during physical stress and was resuscitated thanks to DC-Shock. The Electrocardiogram (ECG) after resuscitation was unremarkable.

For every person exposed a computerized case sheet was elaborated recording clinical, biological, dosimetric and other preventive data. In the localized risk, capillaroscopic monitoring was used.

Recent average life increase, as well as new habits and lifestyles assumption, has determined a change in population health profiles, as a result of progressive increase in chronic-degenerative diseases prevalence. Among these latter; musculoskeletal and cardiovascular diseases are the most frequent ones. Health care workers also suffered from this change in health profiles.

Early onset of spontaneous renal preneoplastic and neoplastic lesions in young conventional rats in toxicity studies.

Although occurring in aged laboratory rodents, spontaneous renal tumour are unknown in animals younger than 18 weeks. A survey on renal preneoplastic and neoplastic lesions has been performed on Sprague-Dawley rats from general toxicology studies over the period January 2004 - May 2006. Data from 2249 rats necropsied and 1206 rats (688 males and 518 females) examined microscopically from 52 studies, are reported.
