Using Lean to Improve Wait Time Performance in Diagnostic Assessment for Lung Cancer.

Cancer Care Ontario developed a diagnostic assessment program (DAP) to improve patients' experience in the diagnostic phase of their cancer journey and improve health system efficiency and effectiveness. The Stronach Regional Cancer Centre Lung DAP (at Southlake Regional Health Centre) used learnings from a Lean improvement event to increase capacity to meet patient demand for service and to achieve/improve upon the provincial wait time target from consultation to diagnosis for lung cancer patients (65% within 28 days), improving overall patient experience of care. Monthly patient volumes have increased by 65%, and wait time has improved by 60%.

Synchrony Detection of Linguistic Stimuli in the Presence of Faces: Neuropsychological Implications for Language Development in ASD.

Children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) may be impaired in their ability to detect audiovisual synchrony and their ability may be influenced by the nature of the stimuli. We investigated the possibility that synchrony detection is disrupted by the presence of human faces by testing children with ASD using a preferential looking language-based paradigm. Children with low language abilities were significantly worse at detecting synchrony when the stimuli include an unobscured face than when the face was obscured.

nuvA, an Aspergillus nidulans gene involved in DNA repair and recombination, is a homologue of Saccharomyces cerevisiae RAD18 and Neurospora crassa uvs-2.

A 40 kb genomic clone and 2.3 kb EcoRI subclone that rescued the DNA repair and recombination defects of the Aspergillus nidulans nuvA11 mutant were isolated and the subclone sequenced. The subclone hybridized to a cosmid in a chromosome-specific library confirming the assignment of nuvA to linkage group IV and indicating its closeness to bimD.
