(-)-Carveol (-Mentha-6,8-dien-2-ol) is a monocyclic monoterpenic alcohol, present in essential oils of plant species such as , and in spices such as (cumin). Pharmacological studies report its antitumor, antimicrobial, neuroprotective, vasorelaxant, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the acute non-clinical oral toxicity, gastroprotective activity of monoterpene (-)-Carveol in animal models and the related mechanisms of action.

Material And Methods: We present seven cases of severe imported malaria, admitted to an intensive care unit between 2000 and 2010, with particular focus on risk factors, clinical presentation, treatment and results.
Results: All patients had a history of recent travel to African endemic areas for malaria.
