Background: The increasing global performance of total hip arthroplasty (THA) has led to a rise in revision surgeries, primarily due to cup failure, with aseptic loosening and periprosthetic infection being common causes. Various techniques and implants, including jumbo cups (JCs), manage residual bone loss post-cup removal, facilitating enhanced surface area for improved host bone contact, and osteointegration. The purpose of the study was to determine the outcomes of acetabular revision arthroplasty using JC implants over a 20-year follow-up period by reporting overall survivorships, complications leading to re-revision, and surgical strategies in re-revision.

Monolayers of graphene oxide, assembled into densely packed sheets at an immiscible hexane/water interface, form transparent conducting films on polydimethylsiloxane membranes after reduction in hydroiodic acid (HI) vapor to reduced graphene oxide (rGO). Prestraining and relaxing the membranes introduces cracks in the rGO film. Subsequent straining opens these cracks and induces piezoresistivity, enabling their application as transparent strain gauges.

Improper freezing of food causes food waste and negatively impacts the environment. In this work, we propose a device that can detect defrosting events by coupling a temperature-activated galvanic cell with an ionochromic cell, which is activated by the release of ions during current flow. Sustainable coatings for metal food packaging were prepared from ZnO nanoparticles (obtained by the thermal decomposition of zinc acetate) and a naturally occurring polyhydroxylated fatty acid named aleuritic (or 9,10,16-trihydroxyhexadecanoic) acid. Both components reacted, originating under specific conditions zinc polyaleuritate ionomers. The polymerization of aleuritic acid into polyaleuritate by a solvent-free, melt polycondensation reaction was investigated at different times (15, 30, 45, and 60 min), temperatures (140, 160, 180, and 200 °C), and proportions of zinc oxide and aleuritic acid (0:100, 5:95, 10:90, and 50:50, w/w).

High-mobility group A (HMGA) proteins have been examined to understand their participation as structural epigenetic chromatin factors that confer stem-like properties to embryonic stem cells (ESCs), induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), and cancer stem cells (CSCs). The function of HMGA was evaluated in conjunction with that of other epigenetic factors such as histones and microRNAs (miRs), taking into consideration the posttranscriptional modifications (PTMs) of histones (acetylation and methylation) and DNA methylation. HMGA proteins were coordinated or associated with histone and DNA modification and the expression of the factors related to pluripotency.

We report 2 cases of primary dermal osteosarcoma. The patients were an 88-year-old man and a 72-year-old man complaining of masses occurring in the ear pavilion and the palm, deemed suspicious for basal cell carcinoma and metastatic colonic carcinoma, and were treated by resection. Microscopically, both featured a dermal lesion mostly composed of atypical spindle cells within a fibrous to hyaline matrix often showing mineralization.

In our perinatal unit we applied the ten steps of WHO/UNICEF for Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative and evaluated the percentage of exclusive (EBF) or complementary breastfeeding (CBF), and of formula fed (FF) healthy full-term infants (HFI) at hospital discharge (HD). HFI performing EBF at HD were 85.3%, a quite high value.

Highly enhanced solid-state thermochromism is observed in regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene), P3HT, when deposited on a superhydrophobic polymer-SiO2 nanocomposite coating. The conformal P3HT coating on the nanocomposite surface does not alter or reduce superhydrophicity while maintaining its reversible enhanced thermochromism. The polymeric matrix of the superhydrophobic surface is comprised of a blend of poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) copolymer and an acrylic adhesive.

Extramedullary myeloma refers to the infiltration of neoplastic monoclonal plasma cells in either organs or soft tissues.
