Use of cannabinoids for acute postoperative pain.

Doubts about the efficacy of medicinal cannabis in the treatment of acute postoperative pain are well justified, at least in light of the information gathered from Google Scholar, Clinical Trials, PubMed, and Cochrane databases.The conflation of cannabis and cannabinoids engenders not only normative but also medical implications. Despite cannabinoids having evinced their efficacy in the treatment of various pathologies, they have yet to demonstrate such in the context of acute postoperative pain.

Incidence and predictive factors of diaphragmatic dysfunction in acute stroke.

Background: The most characteristic clinical signs of stroke are motor and/or sensory involvement of one side of the body. Respiratory involvement has also been described, which could be related to diaphragmatic dysfunction contralateral to the brain injury. Our objective is to establish the incidence of diaphragmatic dysfunction in ischaemic stroke and analyse the relationship between this and the main prognostic markers.

Ceftazidime-induced thrombocytopenia.

Ceftazidime is an antibiotic belonging to the group of third generation cephalosporins, frequently used in clinical practice for its broad antibacterial spectrum. A case report is presented on a 78-year-old man who entered the intensive care unit due to respiratory failure secondary to nosocomial pneumonia in the postoperative period of a laparoscopic hepatic bisegmentectomy for a hepatocarcinoma. It required invasive mechanical ventilation and was treated with ceftazidime, developing a progressive decrease in platelet count after the onset of this drug and after re-exposure to it, not coinciding with the introduction of other drugs.
