Cooperative Group of Additional Immunoglobulin Therapy in Severe Bacterial Infections: results of a multicenter randomized controlled trial in cases of diffuse fibrinopurulent peritonitis.

A multicenter randomized controlled clinical trial, which was carried out in 10 hospitals in the Federal Republic of Germany between 1979 and 1983, studied the influence of i.v. immunoglobulin G on the mortality in patients with diffuse acute fibrinopurulent peritonitis.

[Surgical tactics in soft tissue tumors].

Because of the high risk of local tumor recurrence radical resection of the complete anatomic compartment containing the tumor is the surgical treatment of choice for soft tissue sarcomas, in cases of high grade sarcomas followed by an adjuvant chemotherapy. If the tumor invades surrounding tissues of the compartment one should perform a limited radical resection followed by an aggressive postoperative radiation therapy and possibly by an adjuvant chemotherapy, too. But amputation is necessary in cases of sarcomas involving major bones, joints or major nerves.

Early gastric cancer, i.e., a tumor of intestinal or diffuse cell type confined to the mucosa or submucosa, has so far been found in only 6% of all cases of gastric carcinoma in Europe, whereas the Japanese report a percentage of 30%.

The physiological cell renewal of gastrointestinal mucosa is regulated in man as in animal through certain mechanisms with measurable kinetic data. Pathologic mucosal alterations, metabolic disorders, pharmacological agents etc. clearly affect the regenerative processes of the gastrointestinal epithelium.

[The influence of glucocorticoids on the physiological cell renewal of gastric and intestinal mucosa (author's transl)].

The influence of Methylprednisolone (1.2 mg/kg body weight daily for 14 days) on the physiological cell renewal of gastric and intestinal mucosa was examined autoradiographically by determination of the 3H-labelling index and the cell cycle of the regenerating epithelial cells. Macroscopical or microscopical changes of the gastric or intestinal mucosa could not be observed.

[Choice of procedure in the surgical treatment of liver injuries].

We give an analysis of liver-rupture cases among our own patients and discuss the problems of diagnosis and surgical therapy. Cell renewal of gastric mucosa in Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

In Zollinger-Ellison patients the gastric mucosa is characterized histologically by hyperplasia both of the glands and the gastric pits. The fundic gastric mucosa is thickened with a marked increase of the specific glandular cells. In-vitro autoradiographic examination shows a significant increase in proliferation of the stomach epithelial cells in three patients with hypergastrinaemia.
