Background And Purpose: Hereditary amyloidosis related to transthyretin (ATTR) is a rare and progressive disease that, despite the phenotypic heterogeneity, a length-dependent sensorimotor axonal neuropathy (ATTR-PN) is the classic hallmark. Timely diagnosis is paramount for early treatment implementation.

Methods: Sixty-nine asymptomatic gene carriers (Val30Met) were assessed during a 4-year period to identify those remaining asymptomatic versus those converting to ATTRV30M-PN.

Aquatic organisms that inhabit coastal areas are often exposed to several contaminants. It is known that the bioaccumulation of contaminants can be amplified according to the species feeding habits and contaminant properties. As a consequence, species can experience different effects to contaminant exposure even if they inhabit the same area.

In emergency myelopoiesis (EM), expansion of the myeloid progenitor compartment and increased myeloid cell production are observed and often mediated by the pro-inflammatory cytokine interferon gamma (IFN-γ). Interleukin-10 (IL-10) inhibits IFN-γ secretion, but paradoxically, its therapeutic administration to humans causes hematologic changes similar to those observed in EM. In this work, we use different in vivo systems, including a humanized immune system mouse model, to show that IL-10 triggers EM, with a significant expansion of the myeloid progenitor compartment and production of myeloid cells.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients would strongly benefit from comfortable home diagnosis, during which detection of wakefulness is essential. Therefore, capacitively-coupled electrocardiogram (ccECG) and bioimpedance (ccBioZ) sensors were used to record the sleep of suspected OSA patients, in parallel with polysomnography (PSG). The three objectives were quality assessment of the unobtrusive signals during sleep, prediction of sleep-wake using ccECG and ccBioZ, and detection of high-risk OSA patients.

Research on Archaea's secondary metabolites is still lagging behind that of Bacteria and Eukarya. Our goal was to contribute to this knowledge gap by analyzing the lanthipeptide's clusters in Archaea. As previously proposed, Archaea encodes only class II synthetases (LanMs), which we found to be confined to the class Halobacteria (also known as haloarchaea).

Few studies have examined the associations of pediatric weight management interventions (PWMIs) with reduction in parental stress. We sought to examine the extent to which a PWMI reduces parental stress and whether changes in parental healthful feeding practices and support for physical activity are associated with reduction in parental stress. We analyzed data from the Clinic and Community Approaches to Healthy Weight randomized controlled trial (RCT).

The elderly population living in nursing homes is particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 although individual susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection may be related to the host microbiota. The objective of this work was to investigate the effect of MP101 on the functional (Barthel index), cognitive (GDS/FAST), and nutritional (MNA) status as well as on the nasal and fecal inflammatory profiles of elderly residents living in a nursing home that is highly affected by COVID-19. A total of 25 residents participated in the trial, which involved the daily ingestion of a dairy product ( MP101: 9.

Despite evidence that offering multidisciplinary treatment for children with obesity is effective, access to evidence-based pediatric weight management interventions (PWMIs) is limited. The PWMI is a multidisciplinary approach in primary care that improves BMI among children with a BMI ≥ 85th percentile. To describe the method by which we will evaluate the adoption, acceptability, and feasibility of integrating and implementing a multidisciplinary (HWC) into primary care.

Although proven effective interventions for childhood obesity exist, there remains a substantial gap in the adoption of recommended practices by clinicians. The aims are to: (1) package implementation and training supports to facilitate the adoption of the evidence-based Pediatric Weight Management Intervention (PWMI) (based on three previous effectiveness trials); (2) pilot and evaluate the packaged PWMI; and (3) develop a sustainability and dissemination plan. We used the Consolidated Framework of Implementation Research constructs to create an Implementation Research Logic Model that defined the facilitators and barriers of the PWMI.

This manuscript aims to describe the methodological, operational, and quality control aspects of the assessment of dietary intake in children under five years of age participating in the Brazilian National Survey on Child Nutrition (ENANI-2019), a household survey in a probability sample of Brazilian households. Two instruments were developed to assess child feeding practices - a structured, current status-type questionnaire and a 24-hour dietary recall (24HR), both installed in a mobile data collection device used by previously trained interviewers. A Photographic Manual for Quantification of Children's Dietary Intake was specifically developed for and used in the survey as a support aid to identify and quantify foods reported in the 24HR.

While the use of biodegradable polymers is recognized as a global strategy to minimize plastic pollution, the technical standards (TS) used to attest their biodegradability may not be in compliance with most environmental parameters observed aquatic ecosystems. Indeed, through a careful assessment of the TS currently in use, this study evidenced that these guidelines cover only a fraction of the biogeochemical parameters seen in nature and largely disregard those that occur in the deep-sea. Thus, these TS may not be able to ensure the degradation of such polymers in natural environments, where microbial activity, pH, temperature, salinity, UV radiation and pressure are highly variable.
