Genome Sequence of Three Siphoviruses in the EE, GA and EA5 Actinobacteriophage Clusters: Biscayne, Bush and GreenIvy.

Bacteriophages Biscayne, Bush and GreenIvy were isolated from soil samples in Miami, FL using NRRL B-24224 as host. Transmission electron microscopy shows siphoviral morphologies for all three phages. Based on gene content similarity to other actinobacteriophages, they are assigned to the EE, GA and EA5 clusters, respectively.

Facing migration under adverse conditions: challenges and resilience in the Colombo-Venezuelan border area.

Background: Internal displacement and cross-country migration are an increasing global phenomenon drawing the attention of politicians and the public. Causes and effects on the migrants and receptor populations are varied and often shaped by immigration laws and how migrants and refugees are being dealt with by local conditions, policy frameworks and by the host population (receptors). The massive influx of Venezuelan migrants into Colombia for more than a decade has characteristics which warrant a systematic analysis to identify contextual and individual factors favouring and hindering the well-being of migrants and their new Colombian neighbours of the receptor population.

Drowned Kidney and Liver Donors Demonstrate No Difference in Mortality and Graft Failure Compared With the 4 Most Common Extrinsic Causes of Donor Deaths.

Objectives: The risks of mortality and graft failure in those receiving organ transplants from donors who have drowned are unclear. We compared 5-year mortality and graft survival from those receiving a drowned donor kidney or liver to those receiving organs from alternative causes of nondrowning donor death.

Materials And Methods: In this retrospective analysis, we searched the United Network for Organ Sharing database between January 1, 2010, and June 30, 2022.

Modified Crohn's Disease Exclusion Diet Maintains Remission in Pediatric Crohn's Disease; Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background & Aims: The Crohn's Disease (CD) Exclusion Diet (CDED)+Partial Enteral Nutrition (PEN) is effective for inducing remission in mild-moderate CD. We assessed whether a 2-week course of Exclusive Enteral Nutrition (EEN), followed by CDED+PEN is superior to 8 weeks of EEN in sustaining clinical remission at week 14 in mild-to-severe CD and if CDED+PEN can maintain remission to week 24.

Methods: This international, multicenter, randomized-controlled trial compared 2-weeks of EEN (Modulen®IBD) followed by 3 phases of the CDED+PEN (henceforth CDED) to 8 weeks of EEN, followed by PEN with free diet up to week 24 (henceforth EEN).

Restorative Justice Practices as a Foundation for Medical Education Innovation.

Background: Restorative justice (RJ) is an ethical lens that places emphasis on a community's connection and proliferative impact of actions, promoting communication and establishing methods for accountability. RJ practices can be applied on a spectrum, including proactive community-building practices, community discussions in response to an event, and restorative conferences addressing specific incidences of harm. This article describes an intervention that utilized RJ community-building practices within a medical education environment and evaluates its acceptability and feasibility.

Interactive impact of residual pyrethroid compounds used in the Chilean salmon farming industry and coastal acidification conditions on the feeding performance of farmed mussels in northern Patagonia.

The use of pyrethroids in aquaculture has been an important component of achieving a thriving salmon farming industry in Chile. While the residual presence of such substances is known to depend on environmental conditions, most ecotoxicological studies to date have not considered environmental context. Here, we conducted oceanographic monitoring combined with experiments aiming to estimate the effects of two pyrethroids on the feeding rates of larvae of farmed mussels, Mytilus chilensis.

Differential tissue distribution of pharmaceuticals in a wild subtropical marine fish.

To date, the presence of pharmaceuticals has been extensively documented across a wide range of aquatic systems and biota. Further, substantial progress has been made in transitioning from laboratory assessments of pharmaceutical fate and effects in fish to in situ assessments of exposure and effects; however, certain research areas remain understudied. Among these is investigation of differential accumulation across multiple internal tissues in wild marine fish beyond the species commonly sampled in laboratory and freshwater field settings.

Associations Between Infant Formula Exposure, Housing Instability and Postneonatal Mortality Among Participants in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

Objectives: To quantify infant mortality rates (IMR) using expanded racial categories, and to examine associations between infant formula exposure, housing instability and postneonatal mortality among Minnesota WIC Participants.

Methods: Births in Minnesota from 2014 through 2019 (n = 404,102) and associated infant death records (n = 2034) were used to calculate neonatal and postneonatal rates using expanded racial categories. Those births that participated in the WIC program (n = 170,011) and their linked death records (n = 853) were analyzed using logistic regression to examine associations between formula exposure, housing instability, and postneonatal death.

However, single studies examining multiple environmental compartments, microhabitats, biota, and exposure pathways in mesoconsumer fish are sparse. We investigated the pharmaceutical burden in bonefish (Albula vulpes), pathways of exposure, and estimated exposure to a human daily dose.

Poor bone quality is a major factor in skeletal fragility in elderly individuals. The molecular mechanisms that establish and maintain bone quality, independent of bone mass, are unknown but are thought to be primarily determined by osteocytes. We hypothesize that the age-related decline in bone quality results from the suppression of osteocyte perilacunar/canalicular remodeling (PLR), which maintains bone material properties.

Understanding the roles of evening complex (EC) genes in the circadian clock of plants can inform how diurnal transcriptional loops in the clock gene network function to regulate key physiological and developmental events, including flowering transition. Gene regulatory interactions among soybean's circadian clock and flowering genes were inferred using time-series RNA-seq data and the network inference algorithmic package CausNet. In this study, we seek to clarify the inferred regulatory interactions of the EC gene A gene expression analysis using soybean protoplasts as a transient model indicated regulatory roles of in expression of selected flowering genes.

Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Engagement and Leadership Opportunities for Trainees.

Introduction: To achieve a healthier future for all, improving diversity through efforts such as diversifying faculty and leadership in academic medicine is imperative. Therefore, medical trainees (medical students, residents, fellows) from groups underrepresented in medicine (UiM) are encouraged to pursue academic careers and have opportunities to gain faculty leadership skills during their training. Trainees also need exposure to the leadership positions within various offices of an academic institution such as the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
