Background/hypothesis: Motion sensitivity symptoms, such as dizziness or unsteadiness, are frequently reported as non-headache symptoms of migraine. Postural imbalance has been observed in subjects with vestibular migraine, chronic migraine, and aura. We aimed to assess the ability of largest Lyapunov's exponent for a short time series (sLLE), which reflects the ability to cope with internal perturbations during gait, to detect differences in local dynamic stability between individuals with migraine without aura (MO) with an episodic pattern between attacks and healthy subjects (HS).

Article Synopsis
  • Gait analysis studies in patients with primary hereditary cerebellar ataxia (pwCA) face challenges due to small sample sizes and unbalanced datasets.
  • The study aimed to evaluate how data balancing techniques and generative AI can create synthetic datasets that accurately reflect gait abnormalities in pwCA.
  • Using methods like conditional tabular generative adversarial networks (ctGAN), researchers found that ctGAN improved classification performance and provided better explainability for diagnostic models compared to traditional methods.

Stroke affects the interconnection between the nervous and immune systems, leading to a down-regulation of immunity called stroke-induced immunosuppression (SII). The primary aim of this study is to investigate SII role as a predictor of functional, neurological, and motor outcomes in the neurorehabilitation setting (NRB). We conducted a prospective observational study enrolling post-acute stroke patients hospitalized for neurorehabilitation.

This study aimed to assess the responsiveness to the rehabilitation of three trunk acceleration-derived gait indexes, namely the harmonic ratio (HR), the short-term longest Lyapunov's exponent (sLLE), and the step-to-step coefficient of variation (CV), in a sample of subjects with primary degenerative cerebellar ataxia (swCA), and investigate the correlations between their improvements (∆), clinical characteristics, and spatio-temporal and kinematic gait features. The trunk acceleration patterns in the antero-posterior (AP), medio-lateral (ML), and vertical (V) directions during gait of 21 swCA were recorded using a magneto-inertial measurement unit placed at the lower back before (T0) and after (T1) a period of inpatient rehabilitation. For comparison, a sample of 21 age- and gait speed-matched healthy subjects (HS) was also included.

The expression of prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is upregulated in prostate cancer (PCa) cells and PSMA-ligands have been radiolabeled and used as radiopharmaceuticals for targeted radionuclide therapy (TRT), single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) or positron emission tomography (PET) molecular imaging, and radioguided surgery in PCa patients. Herein, we aimed at radiolabeling the PSMA-I&S cold kit with Tc, resulting in a radiopharmaceutical with high radiochemical yield (RCY) and stability for SPECT imaging and radioguided surgery in PCa malignancies. Various pre-clinical assays were conducted to evaluate the [Tc]Tc-PSMA-I&S obtained by the cold kit.

Introduction: Tumor pathology is a bio-psycho-social event that has consequences for a person's life from all points of view, physical, psychological, relational and social. The mental discomfort that chronic pain and neoplastic pathology brings with it is present in 25-40% of cases, but the request for help to a psychologist, where not provided for by a specific diagnostic therapeutic assistance path, is in the case of medical pathologies less than 3%. The Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta Oncology Network has the role of coordinating the network of services that deal with the care of the cancer patient, including those relating to psycho-oncology.

Prosthetic gait implies the use of compensatory motor strategies, including alterations in gait biomechanics and adaptations in the neural control mechanisms adopted by the central nervous system. Despite the constant technological advancements in prostheses design that led to a reduction in compensatory movements and an increased acceptance by the users, a deep comprehension of the numerous factors that influence prosthetic gait is still needed. The quantitative prosthetic gait analysis is an essential step in the development of new and ergonomic devices and to optimize the rehabilitation therapies.

Background: Harmonic ratios (HRs), recurrence quantification analysis in the antero-posterior direction (RQA), and stride length coefficient of variation (CV) have recently been shown to characterize gait abnormalities and fall risk in people with Parkinson's disease (pwPD) at moderate disease stages.

Research Question: This study aimed to i) assess the internal and external responsiveness to rehabilitation of HR, RQA, and CV, ii) identify the baseline predictors of normalization of the gait stability indexes, and iii) investigate the correlations between the gait indexes modifications (∆) and clinical and kinematic ∆s in pwPD at Hoehn and Yahr disease staging classification 3.

Methods: The trunk acceleration patterns of 21 pwPD and 21 age- and speed-matched healthy subjects (HSmatched) were acquired during gait using an inertial measurement unit at baseline (T0).

The aim of this study was to determine which supervised machine learning (ML) algorithm can most accurately classify people with Parkinson's disease (pwPD) from speed-matched healthy subjects (HS) based on a selected minimum set of IMU-derived gait features. Twenty-two gait features were extrapolated from the trunk acceleration patterns of 81 pwPD and 80 HS, including spatiotemporal, pelvic kinematics, and acceleration-derived gait stability indexes. After a three-level feature selection procedure, seven gait features were considered for implementing five ML algorithms: support vector machine (SVM), artificial neural network, decision trees (DT), random forest (RF), and K-nearest neighbors.

The cyclic regeneration of human endometrium is guaranteed by the proliferative capacity of endometrial mesenchymal stromal cells (E-MSCs). Due to this, the autologous infusion of E-MSCs has been proposed to support endometrial growth in a wide range of gynecological diseases. We aimed to compare two different endometrial sampling methods, surgical curettage and vacuum aspiration biopsy random assay (VABRA), and to validate a novel xeno-free method to culture human E-MSCs.

Background: It is often challenging to formulate a reliable prognosis for patients with acute ischemic stroke. The most accepted prognostic factors may not be sufficient to predict the recovery process. In this view, describing the evolution of motor deficits over time via sensors might be useful for strengthening the prognostic model.

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) isolated from bone marrow (BM-MSCs) are considered advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) and need to be produced according to good manufacturing practice (GMP) in their clinical use. Human platelet lysate (HPL) is a good GMP-compliant alternative to animal serum, and we have demonstrated that after pathogen inactivation with psoralen, it was safer and more efficient to use psoralen in the production of MSCs following GMP guidelines. In this study, the MSCs cultivated in fetal bovine serum (FBS-MSC) or inactivated HPL (iHPL-MSC) were compared for their immunomodulatory properties.
