Muscle dysmorphia (MD) consists of a type of body dysmorphic disorder and involves a distorted perception of one's muscles, strict diets, and workouts. Mostly, studies focus on adult male athletes, especially bodybuilders, while research on adolescents and women is limited. Our study aims to explore potential protective or risk factors influencing MD, using a mediation model calculated through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and at the same time help to involve female individuals in the exploration of a distress traditionally and predominantly analyzed only in male individuals.

Breaking Down the Stigma: A Review of the Literature on the Relationships between Autism Spectrum Disorder and Criminal Behavior.

In recent years, there has been growing interest in the evaluation of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autistic traits in prison populations and offenders. Due to misleading headlines and highly publicized criminal cases, the belief that autistic individuals are more prone to commit crimes has spread among the general population, also leading to increasing research on this matter. : In this context, this narrative review aimed to analyze the available scientific literature on the bi-directional link between ASD and criminal behaviors and to assess the key characteristics of eventual ASD offenders, including sociodemographic data, comorbidities, crime-related features, and interactions with the criminal justice system.

The Role of POCUS to Face COVID-19: A Narrative Review.

COVID-19 has been a challenging outbreak to face, with millions of deaths among the globe. Acute respiratory failure due to interstitial pneumonia was the leading cause of death other than prothrombotic activation and complications. Lung ultrasound (LUS) and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) are widely used not only to triage, to identify, and to monitor lungs involvement but also to assess hemodynamic status and thrombotic and hemorrhagic complications, mainly in critically ill patients.

The Role of Pocus in Acute Respiratory Failure: A Narrative Review on Airway and Breathing Assessment.

Acute respiratory failure (ARF) is a challenging condition that clinicians, especially in emergency settings, have to face frequently. Especially in emergency settings, many underlying diseases can lead to ARF and life-threatening conditions have to be promptly assessed and correctly treated to avoid unfavorable outcomes. In recent years, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) gained growing consideration due to its bedside utilization, reliability and reproducibility even in emergency settings especially in unstable patients.

The slow-release adiponectin analog ALY688-SR modifies early-stage disease development in the D2. mouse model of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Fibrosis is associated with respiratory and limb muscle atrophy in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Current standard of care partially delays the progression of this myopathy but there remains an unmet need to develop additional therapies. Adiponectin receptor agonism has emerged as a possible therapeutic target to lower inflammation and improve metabolism in mouse models of DMD but the degree to which fibrosis and atrophy are prevented remain unknown.

Memory impairment in the D2.mdx mouse model of Duchenne muscular dystrophy is prevented by the adiponectin receptor agonist ALY688.

New Findings: What is the central question of this study? Can adiponectin receptor agonism improve recognition memory in a mouse model of Duchenne muscular dystrophy? What is the main finding and its importance? Short-term treatment with the new adiponectin receptor agonist ALY688 improves recognition memory in D2.mdx mice. This finding suggests that further investigation into adiponectin receptor agonism is warranted, given that there remains an unmet need for clinical approaches to treat this cognitive dysfunction in people with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Comorbidity and Overlaps between Autism Spectrum and Borderline Personality Disorder: State of the Art.

Despite the relationship between Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and personality disorders (PD) still being scarcely understood, recent investigations increased awareness about significant overlaps between some PD and autism spectrum conditions. In this framework, several studies suggested the presence of similarities between BPD and ASD symptoms and traits, based on the recent literature that increasingly reported increased comorbidity rates and significant symptomatologic overlaps between the two conditions. The aim of this review is to describe the available studies about the prevalence of the association between different forms of autism spectrum (full-fledged clinical conditions as well as subthreshold autistic traits) and BPD.

ICARUS at the Fermilab Short-Baseline Neutrino program: initial operation.

The ICARUS collaboration employed the 760-ton T600 detector in a successful 3-year physics run at the underground LNGS laboratory, performing a sensitive search for LSND-like anomalous appearance in the CERN Neutrino to Gran Sasso beam, which contributed to the constraints on the allowed neutrino oscillation parameters to a narrow region around 1 eV. After a significant overhaul at CERN, the T600 detector has been installed at Fermilab. In 2020 the cryogenic commissioning began with detector cool down, liquid argon filling and recirculation.

Current evidence shows that rhizobia carry in most cases a variable number of plasmids, containing genes necessary for symbiosis or free-living, a common feature being the presence of several plasmid replicons within the same strain. For many years, we have been studying the mobilization properties of pSmeLPU88b from the strain Sinorhizobium meliloti LPU88, an isolate from Argentina.

Exercise has been shown to be beneficial for individuals with Alzheimer's disease (AD). In rodent models of AD, exercise decreases the amyloidogenic processing of the amyloid precursor protein (APP). Although it remains unclear as to how exercise is promoting this shift away from pathological APP processing, there is emerging evidence that exercise-induced factors released from peripheral tissues may facilitate these alterations in brain APP processing.

Antipsychotics impair regulation of glucose metabolism by central glucose.

Hypothalamic detection of elevated circulating glucose triggers suppression of endogenous glucose production (EGP) to maintain glucose homeostasis. Antipsychotics alleviate symptoms associated with schizophrenia but also increase the risk for impaired glucose metabolism. In the current study, we examined whether two acutely administered antipsychotics from different drug classes, haloperidol (first generation antipsychotic) and olanzapine (second generation antipsychotic), affect the ability of intracerebroventricular (ICV) glucose infusion approximating postprandial levels to suppress EGP.

We aimed to investigate adverse outcomes among those with and without antithrombotic treatment in major trauma. This is a retrospective study conducted at the Emergency Department (ED) of the University Hospital of Genoa, a tertiary trauma center, including all major trauma between January 2019 and December 2020.

Advanced Differentiated Thyroid Cancer: A Complex Condition Needing a Tailored Approach.

Differentiated thyroid cancers (DTCs) are slow-growing malignant tumours, including papillary and follicular carcinomas. Overall, prognosis is good, although it tends to worsen when local invasion occurs with bulky cervical nodes, or in the case of distant metastases. Surgery represents the main treatment for DTCs.

Conversion rates in robotic thyroid surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: To define the conversion risk to open procedure during robot-assisted thyroid surgery (RATS) identifying potential specific subclasses of procedures or accesses at higher conversion risk.

Methods: In a PRISMA-compliant framework, all original prospective studies providing RATS conversion rates from multiple databases were pooled in a random-effects meta-analysis. Conversion rates were compared between different typologies of thyroid surgery and robotic access.

Evidence of SARS-CoV-2 in nasal brushings and olfactory mucosa biopsies of COVID-19 patients.

The aim of the present study is to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2 of patients affected by COVID-19 in olfactory mucosa (OM), sampled with nasal brushing (NB) and biopsy, and to assess whether a non-invasive procedure, such as NB, might be used as a large-scale procedure for demonstrating SARS-CoV-2 presence in olfactory neuroepithelium. Nasal brushings obtained from all the COVID-19 patients resulted positive to SARS-CoV-2 immunocytochemistry while controls were negative. Double immunofluorescence showed that SARS-CoV-2 positive cells included supporting cells as well as olfactory neurons and basal cells.
