Background: Heroin-assisted treatment (HAT) is an evidence-based treatment option for opioid use disorder (OUD), available in a limited number of countries. Norway implemented a 5-year HAT project in 2022, aiming to assess its effectiveness and its potential integration into the country's OUD treatment system. This study describes and compares patients' baseline characteristics from the Oslo and Bergen HAT clinics, providing a comprehensive picture of the unique population and the real-world application of HAT.

Impact of Concentration Polarization Phenomena on Gas Separation Processes with High-Performance Zeolite Membranes: Experiments vs. Simulations.

Polarization phenomena play a key role in membrane separation processes but remain largely unexplored for gas separations, where the mass transfer resistance is most often limited to the membrane. This assumption, which is commonly used today for the simulation of membrane gas separations, has to be reconsidered when high-performance materials, showing a very high permeance and/or selectivity, are used. In this study, a series of steady-state separation performances experimentally obtained on CO/CH mixtures with a zeolite membrane are compared to the predictions of a dedicated 1D approach, recently derived and validated through CFD simulations.

Optimizing the bactericidal effect of pulsed blue light on Propionibacterium acnes - A correlative fluorescence spectroscopy study.

Propionibacterium acnes infection is the eighth most prevalent disease, affecting 80% of people worldwide. Resistance to antibiotics has been on the rise; over 40% of acne infections now resist commonly used topical and oral anti-acnes antibiotics, making treatment difficult. Arithmetic word problems describing discrete quantities: E.E.G evidence for the construction of a situation model.

In this research, university students were asked to solve arithmetic word problems constructed either with discrete quantities, such as apples or marbles, or continuous quantities such as meters of rope or grams of sand. An analysis of their brain activity showed different alpha levels between the two types of problems with, in particular, a lower alpha power in the parieto-occipital area for problems describing discrete quantities. This suggests that processing discrete quantities during problem solving prompts more mental imagery than processing continuous quantities.

The practice of crushing tablets or opening up capsules to be taken orally, when it is not prescribed, can affect the efficacy of a treatment, or even cause an adverse event. A survey carried out in 2016 revealed that this is a common practice, especially among elderly people. However, alternative forms exist and can be prescribed.

Falls in the elderly are frequent. A study carried out over 6 months in a university hospital's acute geriatric unit highlighted the real walking capacities of hospitalised elderly people. This work studied the adsorption at dodecane/water interface of amphiphilic polysaccharides derived from dextran (a nonionic bacterial polysaccharide) by random attachment of phenoxy groups along the chains (between 10 and 20 attached phenoxy groups per 100 glucose repeat units). The long-time kinetics of interfacial tension decrease was satisfactorily described assuming diffusion-limited adsorption of hydrophobic units (over 4h). Dilational rheology of dodecane/water interface was studied for the first time with that kind of amphiphilic polysaccharides and evidenced a significant elastic component.

Background: Treatment of Gram-positive pathogens remains a major health issue due to the presence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus spp. Daptomycin offers an alternative after therapeutic failure using glycopeptides. Yet its use requires strict control given its financial impact and environmental risks.

Field studies carried out at the CHU de Caen University Hospital have demonstrated that patients and caregivers do not understand the critical aspect of thermosensitive drugs. This observation has led to the development of tools designed to secure the cold chain for thermosensitive drugs and to increase awareness among healthcare professionals.

For more than 30 years, it has been admitted that individuals from the age of 10 mainly retrieve the answer of simple additions from long-term memory, at least when the sum does not exceed 10. Nevertheless, recent studies challenge this assumption and suggest that expert adults use fast, compacted and unconscious procedures in order to solve very simple problems such as 3+2. If this is true, automated procedures should be rooted in earlier strategies and therefore observable in their non-compacted form in children.
