Distal Access Catheter Improves Balloon Guide and Stent Retriever Thrombectomy Outcomes in Nonagenarians.

Background And Purpose: The safety and effectiveness of endovascular techniques in elderly patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) remain controversial. We investigated the angiographic and clinical outcomes of nonagenarians treated with different endovascular techniques using a balloon guide catheter (BGC), distal aspiration catheter (DAC), and/or stent retriever (SR).

Methods: We analyzed the data from the Registry of Combined versus Single Thrombectomy Techniques (ROSSETTI) of consecutive nonagenarian patients with anterior circulation LVO and compared the outcomes of those treated with BGC+noDAC+SR (101-group), BGC+DAC+SR (111-group), and noBGC+DAC+SR (011-group).

Neophobia and exploratory behavior are personality traits through which organisms evaluate and respond to environment changes by adjusting their behavior. The Kelp Gull (Larus dominicanus) is a generalist seabird that consumes a wide variety of prey. Neophobia levels and exploratory behavior in novel circumstances were analyzed in urban adult (n = 13) and immature (n = 15) Kelp Gulls captured in the landfill of Mar del Plata city.

Enhancing human capillary tube network assembly and maturation through upregulated expression of pericyte-derived TIMP-3.

In this study, we identify and characterize new molecular determinants that optimize human capillary tube network assembly. Our lab has previously reported a novel, serum free-defined 3D co-culture model using human endothelial cells (ECs) and human pericytes whereby EC-lined tubes form and co-assemble with pericytes, but when these cultures are maintained at or beyond 5 days, tubes become progressively wider and unstable. To address this issue, we generated novel human pericytes that carry a tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP)-3 transgene which can be upregulated following doxycycline addition.

Impact of double stent retriever configuration on first-pass effect in stroke: a multicenter study.

Background: Efficient recanalization of occluded cerebral arteries is crucial in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke. Double stent retrievers have shown the potential to enhance the rates of recanalization on the first pass. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the double stent retriever technique and the predictors of achieving first-pass effect in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Twisted-wing insects (Strepsiptera) are an enigmatic order of parasites with unusual life histories and striking sexual dimorphism. Males emerge from hosts as free-living winged adults, while females from most species remain as endoparasites that retain larval traits. Due to scarce genomic data and phylogenetic controversies, Strepsiptera was only recently placed as the closest living relative to beetles (Coleoptera).

Use of TC-325 Hemostatic Powder as a Rescue Monotherapy for Management of Rectal Variceal Bleed.

The use of the endoscopic hemostatic powder TC-325 as a rescue monotherapy or as an adjunct agent in achieving hemostasis has been studied in upper gastrointestinal variceal bleeds and nonvariceal lower gastrointestinal bleeds with promising results. In this report, we describe a case of a successful use of TC-325 as rescue monotherapy to manage rectal variceal bleeding in a patient with alcohol-related cirrhosis with no report of bleeding recurrence and no side effects within the first 7 days, 30 days, or 6 months.

Coxsackievirus-Induced Myocarditis With Acute Onset of Heart Failure With Pleural Effusion.

This is a case of a 45-year-old Caucasian female with coxsackievirus-induced myocarditis. Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscles, which can be difficult to diagnose at times because its symptoms overlap with other cardiovascular diseases. At times, when the patient presents, the full impact of the etiology would have either improved or resolved.

A Recurrent Case of Mesothelial Pericardial Cyst.

This is a case of a 37-year-old female patient with past medical history of mitral valve prolapse and benign mesothelial pericardial cyst status post laparoscopic resection who presented to the emergency department with a chief complaint of right-sided sharp non-radiating chest pain due to recurrent case of benign mesothelial pericardial cyst. Though this is not a common pathology, it does overlap with common cardiovascular symptoms/conditions; not limited to but including chest pain, dyspnea, palpitations, pericardial effusions, infections and arrhythmias. It is crucial to have appropriate history and physical exam and appropriate evaluation to rule out pericardial cysts as well as their locations and their potential lethal mechanical implication on crucial nearby structures.

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer and the leading cause of death by cancer in women in Colombia. Approximately 15 to 20% of breast cancers overexpress HER2.

Objective: To analyze the relationship between multiple clinical and histological variables and pathological complete response in patients with HER2-positive breast cancer undergoing neoadjuvant therapy in a specialized cancer center in Colombia.

Introduction: Combined stent-retriever/large-bore distal aspiration catheter (LB-DAC) thrombectomy was recently introduced to treat large-vessel occlusion; however, it is unclear whether larger inner diameters improve outcomes. We compared angiographic and clinical outcomes in patients with occlusions of the M1 segment of the middle cerebral artery treated with mechanical thrombectomy using extra-LB-DAC versus LB-DAC in combination with stent-retrievers.

Methods: We analyzed consecutive patients with M1 occlusion included in the ROSSETTI registry treated with non-balloon guide catheter combined LB-DAC/stent-retriever thrombectomy between June 2019 and April 2022.

Introduction: High-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) is the second most frequent gynecological malignancy but the most lethal, partially due to the spread of the disease through the peritoneal cavity.
