Background: Disruption of dopamine neurotransmission is associated with functional impairment after severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI). This has prompted the study of dopamine agonists, such as amantadine, to assist recovery of consciousness. Randomized trials have mostly addressed the posthospital setting, with inconsistent findings.

Objective: Predicting severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) outcomes is challenging, and existing models have limited applicability to individual patients. This study aimed to identify metrics that could predict recovery following sTBI. The researchers strived to demonstrate that a posterior dominant rhythm on electroencephalography is strongly associated with positive outcomes and to develop a novel machine learning-based model that accurately forecasts the return of consciousness.

Background: Human embryos are usually cultured to blastocyst stage by Day 5 or 6 after insemination. However, some embryos grow slowly and reach blastocyst stage at Day 7. Acceptable live birth rates have been reported after transfer of Day 7 blastocysts resulted from fresh oocyte in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. The African (AA) descent has greater incidence and mortality rates of PCa as compared to Caucasian (CA) men. While socioeconomic differences across racial groups contribute to disparity in PCa, increasing evidence points that genetic and molecular alterations play important roles in racial disparities associated with PCa.

Background: Human embryos produced by in vitro fertilization (IVF) are usually cultured to day 6 after insemination, and good quality of embryos should develop to blastocyst stage at days 5 and 6. However, some embryos develop slowly, thus they may form blastocysts on day 7. Most IVF laboratories culture embryos to day 6 and then discard retarded embryos that do not develop to blastocyst stage.

Purpose: To examine the prevalence of aneuploidy in human blastocysts resulting from donated eggs and embryo implantation after transfer of normal euploid embryos. Also, to assess the necessity of preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) for embryos produced with donor eggs.

Methods: Blastocysts from donor-recipient cycles were biopsied for PGS (PGS group) and the samples were analyzed with DNA microarray.

Background: High proportions of human embryos produced by in vitro fertilization are aneuploidy and mosaic. DNA microarray is one of the most practical screening methods to select euploid embryos for transfer. However, mosaic pregnancy is still possible due to embryonic mosacism.

A previous study comparing the performance of different platforms for DNA microarray found that the oligonucleotide (oligo) microarray platform containing 385K isothermal probes had the best performance when evaluating dosage sensitivity, precision, specificity, sensitivity and copy number variations border definition. Although oligo microarray platform has been used in some research fields and clinics, it has not been used for aneuploidy screening in human embryos. The present study was designed to use this new microarray platform for preimplantation genetic screening in the human.

Background: Successful egg cryopreservation has many potential benefits to a variety of patients. However, a superior standard protocol describing all aspects of oocyte cryopreservation has not yet been identified. Oocyte cryopreservation is still a technical challenge for many infertility clinics.
