Postoperative thromboprophylaxis does not reduce the incidence of thromboembolic events after ACL reconstruction.

Introduction: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructive surgery is one of the most common ligament-related surgeries performed in France. The French Society of Anesthesia & Intensive Care Medicine (SFAR) recommends the systematic use of low-molecular weight heparin postoperatively to prevent venous thromboembolisms (VTE). However, these recommendations differ from one country to another; several national societies do not recommend them.

Background: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) on an outpatient basis is controversial due to concerns about patient safety. In France, only 1.1% of TKAs performed in 2017 were outpatient procedures.

A comparison of four tibial-fixation systems in hamstring-graft anterior ligament reconstruction.

The aim of this study was to evaluate at time-zero four tibial fixations on four major criteria: the elongation and cyclic stiffness of the hamstring graft construct under cyclic loading, the yield load and pullout stiffness under load at failure. Four fixation systems were tested: the Delta screw, the WasherLoc, the TightRope Reverse and the tape locking screw on 32 tibiae of adult pigs using 32 pairs of human semitendinosus and gracilis tendons. Two tests were performed: cyclic tests using loads at 70-220 N, to measure the elongation at the end of the cycles, followed by load-to-failure testing to measure the yield load and the cyclic stiffness.

Cryotherapy with dynamic intermittent compression for analgesia after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Preliminary study.

Background: Cryotherapy is a useful adjunctive analgesic measure in patients with postoperative pain following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery. Either static permanent compression or dynamic intermittent compression can be added to increase the analgesic effect of cryotherapy. Our objective was to compare the efficacy of these two compression modalities combined with cryotherapy in relieving postoperative pain and restoring range of knee motion after ligament reconstruction surgery.

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction in children with a quadrupled semitendinosus graft: preliminary results with minimum 2 years of follow-up.

Background: The management of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears in growing patients must balance activity modification with the risk of secondary (meniscal and cartilaginous) lesions, and surgical intervention, which could adversely affect skeletal growth. Many ACL reconstruction techniques have been developed or modified to decrease the risk of growth disturbance. We have not found any description of ACL reconstruction using a single hamstring, short graft implanted into intraepiphyseal, retroreamed sockets.

The Tape Locking Screw technique (TLS): A new ACL reconstruction method using a short hamstring graft.

The Tape Locking Screw (TLS(®)) system, developed in 2003, is a new anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction method that is based on three principles: one hamstring tendon is harvested, prepared into a short (50 to 60mm), four to five strand closed loop, with a diameter of 8 to 10mm and a 500N pre-load; the tunnels are shorter than usual (10 or 15mm) and created in a retrograde manner to match the diameter of each end of the graft. Maximum press-fit into the bone recesses is obtained by a specific graft introduction method; femoral and tibial fixation is provided by polyethylene terephthalate tape strips, or TLS(®) strips, that pass through each end of the closed tendon loop and attach to bone with a dedicated interference screw, the TLS(®) screw. Our preliminary clinical evaluation consisted of a follow-up of 134 patients.

Magnetic resonance imaging as a tool to predict reparability of longitudinal full-thickness meniscus lesions.

Prediction of meniscus reparability is useful for surgeons to optimise surgical scheduling and to inform patients about postoperative management. This study was designed to determine the accuracy of MRI in predicting the reparability of longitudinal full-thickness meniscus lesions. We studied 100 MRIs of longitudinal full-thickness medial or lateral meniscus lesions located from the meniscosynovial junction to the axial part of the meniscus.

[Isolated congenital aplasia of the anterior cruciate ligament treated by reconstruction in a 5-year-old boy].

Agenesia of the anterior cruciate ligament is a rare entity which is exceptionally symptomatic. We report a case observed in a 5-year-old boy who presented an unstable knee which was treated by Clocheville ligamentopàlasty. At five years followup, the functional outcome was satisfactory.

Meniscal tears in children and adolescents: results of operative treatment.

The goal of this study was to evaluate the results of meniscal repair in children and adolescents by a retrospective case series. Twelve arthroscopic-assisted meniscal repairs were performed on 12 patients younger than 17 years of age (8-16 years, mean 13 years). The anterior cruciate ligament was torn in three cases.

Osteoid osteoma of the elbow in children: a report of three cases and a review of the literature.

Although osteoid osteoma is a relatively common lesion, it is rarely found at the elbow. We report three cases of osteoid osteoma of the olecranon fossa in patients under the age of 15 years. Diagnosis was delayed because of nonspecific clinical and radiological features.

[Osteosynthesis under arthroscopic control of separated tibial plateau fractures. 26 case reports].

Purpose Of The Study: Arthroscopic treatment of tibial plateau fractures may reduce morbidity compared to open articular surgery. But bony fixation is necessarily percutaneous and minimal. The purpose of our study was not only to assess immediate results but also long term functional and anatomic results after arthroscopic treatment of tibial plateau fractures, with special reference to radiographical results.
