There are non-pharmacological interventions that may be of benefit during the acute episode preceding syncope (presyncope), including physical counter-pressure maneuvers (PCM) or change of body position. We performed a systematic review of interventions that may be applied during presyncope as an immediate, first aid tactic.

Early basic life support (BLS) and early defibrillation using automated external defibrillators (AEDs) stand as key elements for improving OHCA survival rate. Nevertheless, the use of AEDs in OHCA remains low, for a variety of reasons, including the number, accessibility and ease of locating AEDs, as well as bystanders' awareness of BLS manœuvres and of the need to use AEDs.

These recommendations without representing a revolution, constitute an evolution centered on a primary goal to increase survival following cardiac arrest. This improvement in survival depends on four main factors: early identification of cardiac arrest, early access to rescue, early and quality CPR, and access to early defibrillation.
