Dupilumab has demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. However, a subset of patients experiences ocular adverse events (OAEs), including conjunctivitis and dry eye syndrome, the pathological mechanisms of which are still unknown. In a bicentric study, we used DNA microarray analysis to compare the transcriptome of conjunctival cells of patients with atopic dermatitis collected by impression cytology before (M0) and 4 months after (M4) initiating dupilumab treatment.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is the second most common neoplastic blood disease worldwide. Belantamab mafodotin is a new antibody conjugate anti-B-cell maturation antigen effective against refractory myelomas. It induces intracorneal microcysts leading to refractive fluctuations.

Article Synopsis
  • There is a very rare condition where people have early-onset ataxia (which means difficulty with movement) and miosis (which means their pupils are very small).
  • So far, only one family has been identified with this condition, and they found a specific change in a gene called ITPR1 that seems to cause it.
  • Researchers found another person with a similar change in the same gene, which helps to confirm that this gene is linked to the ataxia and miosis syndrome, making it easier for doctors to recognize and diagnose in the future.

Purpose: Corneal crosslinking (CXL) is the standard treatment of progressive keratoconus (KC). We evaluated the safety and 10-year outcomes of conventional "epithelial-off" CXL for progressive KC for the first time in a cohort in France.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of patients undergoing conventional CXL (Dresden protocol) in our tertiary ophthalmology department from 2006 to 2011 with 10-year follow-up.

Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are serious and rare diseases, most often drug-induced, and their incidence has been estimated at 6 cases/million/year in France. SJS and TEN belong to the same spectrum of disease known as epidermal necrolysis (EN). They are characterized by more or less extensive epidermal detachment, associated with mucous membrane involvement, and may be complicated during the acute phase by fatal multiorgan failure.

Background And Objectives: Photophobia, a frequent and disabling symptom observed in various neurological conditions and eye diseases, is thought to involve maladaptive brain functioning. We assessed this hypothesis, using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in photophobic patients with minimal-to-severe dry eye disease (DED), as compared to healthy controls.

Methods: This prospective, monocentric, comparative, cohort study included eleven photophobic DED patients compared to eight controls.

Article Synopsis
  • * Among 181 AD patients, 14.9% had conjunctivitis at the start, with most seeing improvement by week 16, while 18.7% developed dupilumab-induced blepharoconjunctivitis, primarily as new cases.
  • * Key risk factors linked to dupilumab-induced blepharoconjunctivitis included having AD on the head and neck, erythroderma, and existing dry eye syndrome, though baseline conjunctivitis severity wasn't a significant factor.

Keratoconus (KC) is a multifactorial progressive ectatic disorder characterized by local thinning of the cornea, leading to decreased visual acuity due to irregular astigmatism and opacities. Despite the evolution of advanced imaging methods, the exact etiology of KC remains unknown. Our aim was to investigate the involvement of corneal epithelium in the pathophysiology of the disease.

Sinking skin flap syndrome is a medical emergency that rarely complicates large craniectomy. It results from an intracerebral hypotension and requires the replacement of the cranial flap.

Among the new biological therapies for atopic diseases, dupilumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody directed against IL-4Rα, the common chain of interleukin-4 and interleukin-13 receptors. Dupilumab showed clinical improvements in patients with atopic dermatitis, asthma, and chronic rhinosinusitis and is currently under development for other indications. While dupilumab is considered to be well tolerated, a number of recent publications have reported various adverse events.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transepithelial corneal cross-linking (CXL) with supplemental oxygen.

Methods: This was a prospective, non-comparative, pilot cohort study conducted at the National Reference Center for Keratoconus (Toulouse, France) on patients with progressive keratoconus. Transepithelial, pulsed, accelerated CXL was performed in an oxygen-rich atmosphere.

Background: Dupilumab is approved for use in moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD) and as an add-on maintenance treatment in patients suffering from severe asthma with type 2 inflammation. Ocular adverse events (OAEs) have been reported with dupilumab almost exclusively in patients treated for AD.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to describe the incidence and nature of dupilumab-induced OAEs and to assess the potential predisposing factors.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the combined implantation of a monofocal intraocular lens (IOL) in the capsular bag with a diffractive multifocal IOL designed for sulcus placement (Reverso).

Setting: Purpan Hospital, Toulouse, and Helios Clinic, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, France.

Design: Prospective case series.

Purpose: To describe the surgical technique and report the outcomes of 2 patients treated with femtosecond laser-assisted ipsilateral rotational lamellar autokeratoplasty in central corneal scars.

Methods: The corneal scar depth was mapped using preoperative optical coherence tomography. An eccentric lamellar lenticule was cut with a femtosecond laser and rotated to decenter corneal opacity and free the pupil area in 2 patients with nonprogressive central corneal scars.

Purpose: To compare the efficacy and safety of topography-guided corneal collagen cross-linking (TG-CXL) to conventional corneal CXL (C-CXL) in progressive keratoconus.

Methods: In this prospective, nonrandomized clinical trial, 60 eyes of 60 patients were scheduled to receive either TG-CXL (30 eyes with deepithelialization focused on the cone, riboflavin application for 10 minutes, and 30 mW/cm pulsed ultraviolet-A irradiance pattern according to topography) or C-CXL (30 eyes treated in accordance with the Dresden protocol). Patients were observed for 1 year postoperatively.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the success rate, effectiveness, and safety of the ICD 16.5 mini-scleral gas permeable contact lens in patients with corneal irregularities and severe ocular surface disease.
  • A total of 39 eyes from 23 patients were fitted with the lens, yielding a significant improvement in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and high comfort and visual quality scores.
  • The results indicate that the lens is a safe and effective option for managing complicated corneal conditions, with minimal complications reported.

Introduction: Retinal detachment (RD) is a potentially blinding condition. Delay in management is a major prognostic factor. In our study, we analyzed the treatment delay for retinal detachments in the Midi-Pyrenees area, and factors which may influence it.
