The identification of informative molecular markers is useful for linkage mapping and can benefit genome-wide association studies by providing fine-scale information about sequence variations. However, high-throughput genotyping approaches are not cost-effective for labs that require frequent use, such as breeding programs that need to perform genotyping on large populations with hundreds of individuals. The number of single nucleotide polymorphism markers generated by those approaches can be far more than needed for most breeding programs; instead, breeders focus on the use of at most hundreds of polymorphic molecular markers for analysis.

Purpose: When severe retinal and corneal injury occur together, a temporary keratoprosthesis (TKP) is often a last resort to allow posterior segment visualization to enable vitreoretinal surgery, followed by a penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) which can restore corneal clarity in a single operation. We aimed to assess visual outcomes following combined PKP and vitreoretinal surgery with the use of a TKP for cases of ocular trauma.

Postrefractive surgery ectasia is a serious, sight-threatening complication seen after the following procedures: laser in situ keratomileusis, photorefractive keratectomy, small-incision lenticule extraction, radial keratotomy, and/or arcuate keratotomy. Specific risk factors may include age, corneal thickness, degree of refractive error, corneal topographic changes including irregular astigmatism, percent tissue ablation, and residual stromal bed. Biomarkers may be a new option to help indicate who is at greatest risk for ectasia.
