Introduction: Humeral shaft fractures are common orthopedic injuries often resulting from high-energy trauma in young patients and low-energy trauma in the elderly. Non-operative management has traditionally been the mainstay of treatment for isolated and low-energy humeral shaft fractures, with operative management reserved for severe cases often involving neurovascular compromise. This case describes a rare, yet catastrophic complication of a humeral shaft fracture where the patient developed trauma-induced coagulopathy (TIC), resulting in amputation of the affected extremity, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), and ultimately death.

Purpose: To evaluate the biomechanical properties of open versus percutaneous Achilles tendon repair.

Methods: A systematic review of original research articles was performed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. To qualify for study inclusion, articles were required to be published in English, use a laboratory design using either human or animal tissue, and directly compare the biomechanical properties of open Achilles repair using a Krackow or Kessler technique with percutaneous repair using either a locking or nonlocking suture construct.

Purpose: Patients with Kienbock disease can present with coronal fracture and collapse of the proximal lunate (Unified B2/Bain grade 1, 2B). Traditionally, this was considered unsalvageable. However, medial femoral trochlea (MFT) osteochondral reconstruction, used to recreate the proximal lunate surface, can be paired with reduction and repair of the coronal plane fracture, thus restoring midcarpal congruity.
