meningitis following ventriculoperitoneal shunt repair: Case report and literature review.

Introduction: is an uncommon and potentially severe cause of bacterial meningitis that can be seen in the setting of neurosurgical procedures. We describe here a case of meningitis in a patient with VP shunt revision.

Case Report: The patient is a 59-year-old female with VP shunt placed several years prior in the setting of normal pressure hydrocephalus.

Pandemic Preparedness.

Pandemic preparedness is a key function of any health care facility. Activities pertaining to pandemic preparedness should be developed and maintained within a broader emergency management plan. The use of a Hospital Incident Command System can centralize coordination of the response and facilitate internal and external communication.

Cutaneous listeriosis.

Cutaneous infections due to Listeria monocytogenes are rare. Typically, infections manifest as nonpainful, nonpruritic, self-limited, localized, papulopustular or vesiculopustular eruptions in healthy persons. Most cases follow direct inoculation of the skin in veterinarians or farmers who have exposure to animal products of conception.
