Unlabelled: This study investigates a previously unreported stress signal transduced as crosstalk between the cell wall integrity (CWI) pathway and the septation initiation network (SIN). Echinocandins, which target cell wall synthesis, are widely used to treat mycoses. Their efficacy, however, is species specific.

Equitable mirrors.

Mirror surfaces used in catadioptric sensors are often designed so as to minimize one particular kind of image distortion. In this article we explore some finer properties of equi-areal mirrors, those that feature no area distortion, and we propose novel ways to measure compound forms of distortion. Specifically, we develop new mirror surfaces with large fields of view that simultaneously minimize angular and areal distortion with respect to different cost functions.

The role of VEGF pathways in human physiologic and pathologic angiogenesis.

Background: In preclinical models, VEGF is a potent stimulant of both physiologic and pathologic angiogenesis. Conversely, anti-VEGF regimens have successfully inhibited angiogenesis both in vitro and in vivo. We hypothesized that VEGF would stimulate both physiologic and pathologic angiogenesis in a human-based fibrin-thrombin clot angiogenesis assay.

DNA damage and repair in light-induced photoreceptor degeneration.

Purpose: Intense light causes photoreceptor death that is greatest in the superior central retina. Short-duration treatment in a light-damage model results in TUNEL-positive photoreceptor nuclei within this region. However, cells lost 10 days after light treatment are fewer than the TUNEL-labeled cells observed earlier.
