DC techniques such as cyclic potentiodynamic polarization showed lower passive current densities, high breakdown potentials, and a higher resistance to initial breakdown compared with wrought 316L samples at all temperatures.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn this work, the passivation and localized corrosion of selective laser melted (SLM) stainless steel 316 L when exposed to high pressures of CO with the presence of HS and Cl at 25 °C and 125 °C were studied. Depletion of Cr/Mo was observed at the cell interiors and melt-pool boundaries (MPBs) compared to the cell boundaries. Volta potential differences obtained from scanning Kelvin probe force microscopy (SKPFM) showed that the MPBs were 8-20 mV lower than the matrix, while the cell interiors were 20-50 mV lower than the cell boundaries.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTo confirm target engagement of hits from our high-throughput screening efforts, we ran biophysical assays on several hundreds of hits from 15 different high-throughput screening campaigns. Analyzing the biophysical assay results from these screening campaigns led us to conclude that we could be more strategic in our biophysical analysis of hits by first confirming activity in a thermal shift assay (TSA) and then confirming activity in either a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) assay or a temperature-related intensity change (TRIC) assay. To understand how this new workflow shapes the quality of the final hits, we compared TSA/SPR or TSA/TRIC confirmed and unconfirmed hits to one another using four measures of compound quality: quantitative estimate of drug-likeness (QED), Pan-Assay Interference Compounds (PAINS), promiscuity, and aqueous solubility.

We developed a STEAP1-targeted XmAb 2+1 T-cell engager (TCE) molecule, AMG 509 (also designated xaluritamig), that is designed to redirect T cells to kill prostate cancer cells that express STEAP1. AMG 509 mediates potent T cell-dependent cytotoxicity of prostate cancer cell lines in vitro and promotes tumor regression in xenograft and syngeneic mouse models of prostate cancer in vivo.

For example, the prolonged exposition of aggressive ions in the physiological media and the existence of defects in the oxide film create conditions for corrosion to occur, thus triggering unwanted biological events and compromising the mechanical integrity of the implants. Moreover, when the implant does not need to be permanent, there is the need to submit the patient for a second surgery for implant removal.

Methods: Online databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, Web of Science, Cochrane) and reference lists were searched until September 30, 2022.
Background: While treatment with levodopa remains the cornerstone of Parkinson's disease (PD) management, chronic oral therapy is often associated with the development of motor complications, that correlate to fluctuating levodopa plasma concentrations, limiting its clinical utility. Continuous infusion is considered to be the optimal delivery route for treating PD patients with motor fluctuations, but current infusion systems require invasive surgery. Subcutaneous infusion of (SC) levodopa has the potential to provide a better tolerated and more convenient route of continuous levodopa delivery.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: This investigation aimed to answer the following questions: are health science students provided with death and dying education before attending clinical rotations, and if so, do the students receiving this type of education perceive it as effective?
Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional survey, 96 Midwestern State University health science students were surveyed to determine the percentage of students who had received death and dying education before clinical rotations, as well as the students’ perception of educational effectiveness for those who had received end-of-life training. A self-report questionnaire presented nursing, radiologic sciences, and respiratory care students with a series of questions pertaining to the education they had received concerning the death and dying process of patients.
Results: Of the 93 students who had already started their clinical rotations, 55 stated they had not received death and dying education before starting clinical courses.

Methods: This was a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, 2-period study evaluating the safety and pharmacokinetics of ND0612 in PD patients on an optimized oral levodopa regimen and experiencing ≥2 h/day of OFF time. During Period-1, patients received their current standard of care (SoC) levodopa/carbidopa and were randomized (2:1) to 14 days treatment with adjunct ND0612 (daily levodopa/carbidopa dose of 270/63 mg) or placebo infusion +SoC.
Background: Continuous, subcutaneous (SC) levodopa/carbidopa infusion with ND0612 is under development as a treatment for patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and motor fluctuations.

We explored the psychological adjustment and experiential perspectives of survivors and families in the second year after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).
Methods: A prospective, mixed-methods study of adult OHCA survivors in Victoria, Australia was conducted.

Methods: We correlated the Altmetric Attention Score with Web of Science citation counts at 5 years for scholarly work published in the 10 highest impact factor GI journals in 2014.
Results: In 4,026 analyzed items, the correlation (r) between Altmetric Attention Score and citations at 5 years was 0.
Electronic (E)-cigarette use or vaping is associated with pulmonary injury. Users can present with wide-ranging symptoms, varying degrees of pulmonary injury, and respiratory distress. Lung injury secondary to vaping is associated with a variety of patterns on pulmonary imaging.
