Mentalizing the Clinical High-Risk for Psychosis Model: A Staged Intervention Framework.

This article seeks to further specify how the mentalization-based approach may inform clinical intervention before the onset of psychosis, that is, during the stage of clinical high-risk for psychosis (CHR-P). We first review the concept of CHR-P, as well as the research evidence of the impact of early intervention. Next, we present evidence for the centrality of mentalizing as a process that may mitigate the risk for psychosis.

Prediction of 5-year overall survival of tongue cancer based machine learning.

Objective: We aimed to develop a 5-year overall survival prediction model for patients with oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma based on machine learning methods.

Subjects And Methods: The data were obtained from electronic medical records of 224 OTSCC patients at the PLA General Hospital. A five-year overall survival prediction model was constructed using logistic regression, Support Vector Machines, Decision Tree, Random Forest, Extreme Gradient Boosting, and Light Gradient Boosting Machine.

Small volatile lipophilic molecules induced belowground by aphid attack elicit a defensive response in neighbouring un-infested plants.

In pioneering studies on plant-aphid interactions, we have observed that plants infested by aphids can transmit signals via the rhizosphere that induce aboveground defence in intact, neighbouring plants. The aphid parasitoid is significantly attracted towards intact broad bean plants grown in a hydroponic solution previously harbouring -infested plants. To identify the rhizosphere signal(s) possibly mediating this belowground plant-plant communication, root exudates were collected using Solid-Phase Extraction (SPE) from 10-day old -infested and un-infested plants hydroponically grown.

L-DOPA functions as a plant pheromone for belowground anti-herbivory communication.

While mechanisms of plant-plant communication for alerting neighbouring plants of an imminent insect herbivore attack have been described aboveground via the production of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), we are yet to decipher the specific components of plant-plant signalling belowground. Using bioassay-guided fractionation, we isolated and identified the non-protein amino acid l-DOPA, released from roots of Acyrtosiphon pisum aphid-infested Vicia faba plants, as an active compound in triggering the production of VOCs released aboveground in uninfested plants. In behavioural assays, we show that after contact with l-DOPA, healthy plants become highly attractive to the aphid parasitoid (Aphidius ervi), as if they were infested by aphids.

Factors affecting duration of post-surgical orthodontics in the Surgery First/Early Approach: A retrospective study.

Background: Surgery First Approach (SFA) and Surgery Early (SE) are considered promising alternatives, compared to the conventional three-stages orthodontic-surgical approach, for treatment of dento-maxillofacial deformities. However, many features need further study, like the role of the orthodontist. Aim of the study was to analyse the clinical characteristics of patients who underwent SFA and SE, and if differences in duration of orthodontics could be influenced by clinical features.

Wolbachia infection and genetic diversity of Italian populations of Philaenus spumarius, the main vector of Xylella fastidiosa in Europe.

Philaenus spumarius is a cosmopolitan species that has become a major threat to European agriculture being recognized as the main vector of the introduced plant pathogen Xylella fastidiosa, the agent of the "olive quick decline syndrome", a disease which is devastating olive orchards in southern Italy. Wolbachia are bacterial symbionts of many insects, frequently as reproductive parasites, sometime by establishing mutualistic relationships, able to spread within host populations. Philaenus spumarius harbors Wolbachia, but the role played by this symbiont is unknown and data on the infection prevalence within host populations are limited.

Do lower third molars increase the risk of complications during mandibular sagittal split osteotomy? Systematic review and meta-analysis.

The aim of this systematic review was to investigate whether the presence of third molars (3Ms) during sagittal split osteotomy of the mandible increases the risk of complications. Searches were conducted using MEDLINE via PubMed, LILACS, Cochrane Central, Scopus, DOSS, and SIGLE via OpenGrey up to December 2020. Fifteen articles were included for evaluation and 14 in the meta-analysis, with a total of 3909 patients and 7651 sagittal split osteotomies (670 complications).

Assessment of maxillary canting on cone beam computed tomography and digital models: A retrospective study and proposal of a method.

Objectives: The mounting of the plaster casts on articulator procedure is routinely performed in orthognathic surgery to assess canting of the maxillary occlusal plane, but the currently used protocols and reference plane could be source of errors which affect reliability. Nowadays the assessment of canting of the maxillary occlusal plane could be also performed with an entirely digital protocol. Aim of the study was to propose a method to evaluate canting in patients affected by Unilateral Condylar Hyperplasia, comparing the measurements performed on digital models matched on CBCT with those made on traditional articulator.

The collagen is important for resisting tensile forces, while the elastin is responsible to maintain the shape after deformation. We studied the orientation of collagen and elastin in a normal human temporomandibular joint disc by light microscopy, immunofluorescence and scanning electron microscopy.

Histological and Immunofluorescence Study of Discal Ligaments in Human Temporomandibular Joint.

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a bilateral synovial articulation stabilized by several anatomical structures such as ligaments. The existence of articular capsule reinforcement structures have been described in the lateral and medial sides of disc which have been defined as collateral ligaments, lateral and medial. Despite that, some macroscopic observations support that these collateral ligaments do not belong to the articular capsule but they belong to the disc.

Slice Functional Condylectomy and Piezosurgery: A Proposal in Unilateral Condylar Hyperplasia Treatment.

Condylar hyperplasia is a temporomandibular joint progressive disease characterized by an excessive growth of the mandibular condyle. Condylar overgrowth represents one of the most common causes of facial asymmetry in early adulthood. The Role of Three-Dimensional Printing Technology as an Additional Tool in Unilateral Condylar Hyperplasia Surgical Planning.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether additive manufactory technology through the use of 3D mandible and skull cast models can provide additional support to the virtual surgical planning for patients affected by unilateral condylar hyperplasia (UCH). This study describes 2 patients affected by active UCH. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans were converted in STL files and then sent to a 3D printer that provided 3D cast models of patient's mandible and skull.

Microscopic reconstruction and immunohistochemical analysis of discomalleolar ligament.

Discomalleolar ligament represents the vestiges of the primitive lateral pterygoid muscle which penetrates in the caudal end of Meckel's cartilage; during the development of newborn, the petrotympanic fissure close almost completely leaving inside the discomalleolar ligament. After entering in tympanic cavity, some fibers of the discomalleolar ligament insert to walls of cavity, other fibers continue with the lateral margin of the anterior ligament and insert in the neck of malleus; in contrast, other Authors demonstrated that discomalleolar ligament is an independent structure inserted in proximity of the neck of the malleus. Although the discomalleolar ligament can be considered as a structure of clinical importance, it is not described by anatomy textbooks.

Maxillofacial departments in 23 surgical units in Italy have been increasingly involved in facing the COVID-19 emergency. Unilateral Condylar Hyperplasia: A Comparison With Two Open-Source Softwares.

Unilateral condylar hyperplasia (UCH) is a condyle disorder that arises due to osteoblastic hyperactivity, resulting in facial asymmetry, malocclusion and dysfunction. Authors, in this retrospective study, compared "gold standard" manual-segmentation with a "semi-manual one" using 2 kinds of open-source software (Horos and ITK-SNAP; Penn Image Computing and Science Laboratory) to calculate volume of 80 UCH condyles (40 patients).
