Association between COVID-19 Vaccine Side Effects and Body Mass Index in Spain.

COVID-19 vaccines have shown high efficacy, with most side effects being mild-moderate and more frequently reported by females and people at younger ages. Since no studies have assessed the impact that weight status could have on the reported adverse reactions, we aim to study the association between weight status and reported side effects. We included data on 2136 adults from an online survey conducted from 6 May to 9 June 2021.

Impact of orocecal transit time on patient´s perception of lactose intolerance.

Background: symptoms attributed to the lactose intolerance are an important public health issue because of their prevalence and social relevance. Also because they may cause undue rejection of dairy products consume with potential health consequences. Transit time is a putative factor implied in the severity of symptoms associated with lactose.

Subjective perception of lactose intolerance does not always indicate lactose malabsorption.

Background & Aims: Symptomatic lactose intolerance is common; however, abdominal symptoms that patients experience after ingestion of lactose-containing foods can have causes beyond lactose malabsorption. We aimed to determine whether symptoms that patients usually attribute to lactose intolerance are comparable to symptoms provoked by a controlled lactose challenge and whether these symptoms are related to lactose absorption capacity.

Methods: We performed an observational, prospective, transverse study of 353 patients referred for a lactose hydrogen breath test (HBT).

Influence of colectomy on hydrogen excretion in breath.

Introduction: Hydrogen breath test is the most commonly used method to analyze carbohydrate absorption and diagnose carbohydrate malabsorption. The result of the H(2) breath test is influenced by different factors, which are mostly related to quantitative or qualitative aspects of colonic flora. A scarcely studied variable is the effect of colonic anatomical integrity on H(2) excretion in breath.

Development, validation, and applicability of a symptoms questionnaire for lactose malabsorption screening.

Unlabelled: Lactase deficiency has a high prevalence worldwide. Thus, a valid symptom scale would be a useful tool for identifying patients with lactose malabsorption.
