The growing demand for lithium-ion batteries will result in an increasing flow of spent batteries, which must be recycled to prevent environmental and health problems, while helping to mitigate the raw materials dependence and risks of shortage and promoting a circular economy. Combining pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical recycling approaches has been the focus of recent studies, since it can bring many advantages. In this work, the effects of incineration on the leaching efficiency of metals from EV LIBs were evaluated.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAim: This study aims to determine the incidence of all immune-mediated adverse events (IMAEs) with a focus on hypophysitis in patients with metastatic melanoma receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI).
Methods: 51 patients with metastatic melanoma who received immune checkpoint inhibitors (ipilimumab, pembrolizumab and nivolumab) in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee between 2014 and 2018 were identified. Patient demographic data and outcomes were recorded retrospectively.
Background: Bevacizumab is a recombinant humanised monoclonal antibody to vascular endothelial growth factor shown to improve survival in advanced solid cancers. We evaluated the role of adjuvant bevacizumab in melanoma patients at high risk of recurrence.
Patients And Methods: Patients with resected AJCC stage IIB, IIC and III cutaneous melanoma were randomised to receive either adjuvant bevacizumab (7.

In this study, nanofibre mats for chemical adsorption of heavy metals were prepared by electrospinning blends of hydrolyzed keratin (HK) and polyamide 6 (PA6) in formic acid. Viscosity measurements of the spinning solutions and morphological analyses of the fracture sections of the same polymer blends cast into films, suggested intermolecular interactions and good compatibility between HK and PA6. The mats made of continuous randomly oriented blend nanofilaments of HK/PA6 50/50 wt, with a mean diameter of about 200 nm, were tested as chromium (VI) ion adsorbents.

However, there are few reported cases of successful imatinib therapy in patients with melanoma containing KIT gene mutation or c-kit protein expression.
Methods And Results: A 52-year-old man developed metastatic melanoma from a primary melanoma in the left side of the nasopharynx.
Head and neck cancer is traditionally thought of as being a disease associated with alcohol and tobacco abuse and deprivation. It was the fourth most common cancer in males in Scotland in 2000 and just over 1,000 cases were diagnosed in 2007. As smoking becomes less prevalent, a fall in the incidence of head and neck cancer could be anticipated; however, increasing evidence of other aetiological factors contributing to the diagnosis of head and neck cancer, particularly oropharyngeal cancer in non-smoking, little-drinking populations, is impacting on that perception.

Salivary duct carcinoma has significant pathological similarities to ductal carcinoma of the breast.
Methods And Results: A 49-year-old man developed lung and liver metastasis a few months after surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy for salivary duct carcinoma of the parotid gland.
