The inadequate choice of a diagnostic method or the option for techniques that have low sensitivity and specificity may limit the diagnosis of parasitic agents that affect aquatic mammals. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of the FLOTAC technique and compare it with three traditional methods (Willis, sedimentation and centrifugation- flotation) used in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal parasites in aquatic mammals. For this, 129 fecal samples from 12 species were collected.

Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy can provide information related to the biochemical composition and how it changes when a pathological state arises. FTIR spectroscopy has undergone rapid development over the last decades with a promise of easier, faster, and more impartial diagnoses within the biomedical field.

Organ-on-a-chip (OoC) devices are a solution that has been explored over the last decade. The combination of microfluidics and cell culture allows the design of a dynamic microenvironment suitable for the evaluation of treatments' efficacy and effects, closer to the response observed in patients.

Among venomous snake species in Brazil, the tropical rattlesnake (Crotalus durissus terrificus) accounts for the highest number of fatal envenomations and is responsible for the second highest number of bites. Snake venoms are complex secretions which, upon injection, trigger diverse physiological effects that can cause significant injury or death.

Introduction: Some authors point to a relationship between mental disorders (MD) and atopic dermatitis (AD), but few determine which MD these are, and none of them evaluate the impact of AD on their healthy siblings.
Aim: To determine which MD affect children and adolescents with AD and compare it with the risk of their healthy siblings.
Material And Methods: This is a cross-sectional, prospective study with the application of a risk assessment instrument for Mental Disorders in paediatric patients with AD and their siblings from September 2016 to June 2018.
Research quantifying the unique workload demands of starters and reserves in training and match settings throughout a season in collegiate soccer is limited. The purpose of the current study is to compare accumulated workloads between starters and reserves in collegiate soccer. Twenty-two NCAA Division III female soccer athletes (height: 1.

In Brazil, the process of development and updating of the clinical guidelines for the Brazilian Unified Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde, SUS) is already well systematized by the Ministry of Health. However, the implementation process of those guidelines has not yet been discussed and well structured.

Thus, an assessment of insecticides' effects on T. pretiosum is required to establish their compatibility with mass releases of the parasitoid.

Research Question: Does OSA treatment with CPAP per se have effects on the MS reversibility and the associated metabolic, adiposity and vascular parameters?
Study Design And Methods: The TREATOSA-MS trial is a randomized placebo-controlled trial that enrolled adult patients with a recent diagnosis of MS and moderate or severe OSA (apnea-hypopnea index [AHI], ≥ 15 events/h) to undergo therapeutic CPAP or nasal dilator strips (placebo group) for 6 months. Before and after each intervention, we measured anthropometric variables, BP, glucose, and lipid profile.
Background: There are several groups of viruses including Insect Specific Viruses (ISV) such as the taxon Negevirus, a group of viruses phylogenetically related to plant viruses. Negeviruses replicate in mosquito cells, but not in vertebrate cells.
Methods: Pools of hematophagous arthropods were inoculated in Vero and C6/36 cells.
Background: Energy drinks are one of the most popular packaged beverage products consumed within the United States (US). Energy drinks are considered a functional beverage, a category that also includes sports drinks and nutraceutical beverages.
Purpose: The focus of the current study was to examine the nutrition fact panels of the top selling commercially available energy drink and energy shot products within the US to characterize common ingredient profiles to help establish a standard definition and ingredient profile of energy drinks and energy shots for consumers, health care practitioners, and researchers.
Purpose: To identify T -filtering methods, which can specifically isolate various ranges of T components as they may be sensitive to different microstructural properties.
Methods: Modified Bloch-Provotorov equations describing a bi-T component biophysical model were used to simulate the inhomogeneous magnetization transfer (ihMT) signal from ihMTRAGE sequences at high RF power and low duty-cycle with different switching time values for the dual saturation experiment: Δt = 0.0, 0.
Acute onset isolated freezing of gait (FOG) is a rare and defying diagnosis. Its pathophysiology is not yet totally understood and several brain regions seem to be involved. Postlesional FOG can help to shed light on the networks involved.

Background: In a study recently published by our research group, the isoxazoline-acylhydrazone derivatives R-99 and R-123 presented promising antinociceptive activity. However, the mechanism of action of this compound is still unknown.
Objective: This study aimed to assess the mechanisms involved in the antinociceptive activity of these compounds in chemical models of pain.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of neuromuscular electrical stimulation on functional capacity of patients in the immediate postoperative period of cardiac surgery.
Design: A prospective, randomized controlled trial.
Setting: A cardiac surgery specialist hospital in Aracaju, Sergipe, Brazil.
Fission yeast contains three essential β(1,3)-D-glucan synthases (GSs), Bgs1, Bgs3, and Bgs4, with non-overlapping roles in cell integrity and morphogenesis. Only the mutants and exhibit resistance to GS inhibitors, even in the presence of the wild-type (WT) sequences of and . Thus, Bgs1 and Bgs3 functions seem to be unaffected by those GS inhibitors.

Technological improvement is the most important cause of long-term economic growth. In standard growth models, technology is treated in the aggregate, but an economy can also be viewed as a network in which producers buy goods, convert them to new goods, and sell the production to households or other producers. We develop predictions for how this network amplifies the effects of technological improvements as they propagate along chains of production, showing that longer production chains for an industry bias it toward faster price reduction and that longer production chains for a country bias it toward faster growth.

Background: Leadless pacemakers have been designed as an alternative to transvenous systems which avoid some of the complications associated with transvenous devices. We aim to perform a systematic review of the literature to report the safety and efficacy findings of leadless pacemakers.
Methods: We searched MEDLINE and EMBASE to identify studies reporting the safety, efficacy and outcomes of patients implanted with a leadless pacemaker.
Living in a rural or remote area is frequently associated with impaired access to health services, which directly affects the possibility of early diagnosis and appropriate monitoring of diseases, mainly non-communicable ones, because of their asymptomatic onset and evolution. Point-of-care devices have emerged as useful technologies for improving access to several laboratory tests closely patients' beds or homes, which makes it possible to eliminate the distance barrier. To evaluate the application of point-of-care technology for glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) estimation in the assessment of glycemic control and identification of new diagnoses of diabetes in primary care among rural communities in a Brazilian municipality.

Classic analgesic drugs, such as opioids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, are known for their wide range of adverse effects, making it important to develop new drugs. Thus, this study aimed to analyse the action of the hybrid compound cis- (±) -acetate of 4-chloro-6- (naphthalene-1-yl) -tetrahydro-2h-pyran -2-yl) methyl2- (2- [2,6-dichlorophenylamine] phenyl (LS19) under acute nociceptive conditions, and deepened the understanding of the responsible mechanisms.
